receivedebrisandsoilfromhigherelevations,especiallywhenthereisastorm
orheavyrainfall.
3.Beupdatedonnewsregardingtheconditionofyourarea.
4.Beawareofthedisasterplansofyourlocalgovernment.
5.Learnandparticipateinemergencyresponseandevacuationplansforyour
community.
B. DURING A LANDSLIDE
1.Beattentivetoanythingunusualsuchascrackingobjects,movingdebris,and
rollingboulders.
2.Stayawayfromthepathofdebris.Thisismoredangerousifmudflowoccurs.
3.Stayalertandawake.Listenforunusualsoundsthatmightindicatemoving
debris,suchastreescrackingorbouldersknockingtogether.
4.Stayonanelevatedandsturdyarea.Avoidlow-lyingareasandsteepslopes.
5.Ifescapeisnotpossible,curlintoatightballandprotectyourhead.Finda
structurethatcanservetoprotectyoufromtheflowofdebris.
C. AFTER A LANDSLIDE
1.Stayawayfromaslideareaasthereisstilldangerofmorelandslides.
2.Listenforthelatestemergencyinformation.
3.Followwarningsandinstructionfromthelocalgovernment.
4.Ifthelandslideiscausedbyrainfall,watchoutforfloodingasitwillfollow
thesamepathtakenbythedebrisflow.
5.Checkforinjuredortrappedpeopleneartheslide,andfloodingasitwill
followotherpotentialhazards.Reporttheseimmediatelytotherescuersor
authorities

IN AN EVENT THAT SINKHOLES ARE NOT DETECTED EARLIER
AND IT APPEARS SUDDENLY, DO THE FOLLOWING:
1.Findrefugeinastablegroundoropenarea.
2.Waituntilthestructuresonandaroundthesinkholestops
moving.Donotattempttogobackandretrieveyour
belongings.
3.Waitforthelocalgovernment’sannouncementwhenitis
safetogoback.
AFTER A SINKHOLE’S APPEARANCE, HERE ARE THE FOLLOWING
STEPS TO DO:
1.Stayawayfromthesinkhole.
2.Monitorthedamagesonobjects.Forexample,ifthecrackgets
longerorwiderthesinkholemaystillenlarge.
3.Donotthrowanythingintothesinkhole.Anythingthrownintoit
maycontaminatethegroundwater.
4.Securewhateverisleftofyourpropertiesandrelocatetosafe
grounds,preferablyfarfromthislocationbecausethesamebedrock
orsoilprofilemaycharacterizethevicinitiesofthesinkhole.
