Introduction --------------------------------- disasters Disasters are serious disruptions to the functioning of a community that exceed its capacity to cope using own resources. Disasters can be caused by naturally, man made, technological hazards, as well as various factors that influence the exposure and vulnerability of a community.

Types – 1. Natural disasters 2. Man-made disasters

Natural disasters Natural disasters, also referred to as natural hazards are extreme, sudden events like floods, fires, heatwaves, etc. natural disasters are now increasingly severity, scope and impact.

Man-Made Disasters- Man mads disaster have an element of human intent, negligence, error involving a failure of a man-made system, as opposed to natural disasters resulting from natural hazards. Such man made disasters are crime, arson, civil disorder, terrorism, war, biological/chemical threat, cyber attacks, etc.

Causes of natural disasters The main causes of natural disasters are tectonic shifts, lunar activities, deforestation, soil erosion, air pressure, ocean currents, pollution, global warming, mining, seismic waves, etc. Agricultural practices, mining, deforestation can lead to landslides. Plants and animals can also be damages by wildfires. 7

Causes of man-made disasters Man-made disasters have element of human intent, negligence, or error involving a failure of a man-made system, as opposed to natural disasters resulting from natural hazards. Such man-made disasters crime, arson, civil disorder, terrorism, war,etc . 8

How to prevent disasters? 9 NATURAL DISASTERS :- Awareness, education, preparedness, and prediction and warning systems can reduce disruptive impacts of a natural disaster on communities. Mitigation measures such as adoption of zoning, land-use, practices, and building, codes are needed, however, to prevent or reduce actual damage from hazards.
