Defining Social Sciences as the Study of Society
-UNESCO The Social sciences have a critical contribution to make, in helping us understand, imagine and craft a more sustainable future for all.
Who I am How I behave with others
Mirrors won’t give your true reflection. The image we see looking at us from the mirror is not the face we show to the world Photo filters and angles can present your looks differently. a camera will never be able to “see” your true appearance and reflect it the way the eyes of other people do.
It depends on how other people see themselves too. Attractive people compare themselves to other attractive people, and unattractive people take their self-esteem from unattractive people our vision of ourselves may be affected by the people around us, because of the way we compare our appearance to them. You compare yourself unfairly. Comparing yourself means you are struggling with insecurities which can give you a different picture of your look or life .
Fear can cloud your perception. Fear can intensify the perception. Anxiety can target your insecurities and heighten them and it will look like you are searching for threats. Changes in your lifestyle can affect the way you see yourself. Mood swings, lack of sleep, hormone imbalance, poor diet, and other mental and physical changes or conditions might affect your self-perception.
What is Social Science?
SOCIAL SCIENCE Any discipline or branch of science that deals with human behavior in its social and cultural aspects. Social Science is an academic discipline concerned with society and the relationships among individuals within a society, which often rely primarily on empirical approaches.
SOCIAL SCIENCE Social Sciences are those disciplines that study: Institutions and functioning of human society and the interpersonal relationships of individuals as members of society. A particular phase or aspects of human society.
SOCIAL SCIENCE Social science studies the historical, cultural, sociological, psychological, and the political forces that shape the actions of individuals and their impact on society (Dela Cruz, et. al. 2016). The term social science is a body of knowledge characterized by an objective to understand what society is and what does it to people living inside it ( Tatel , Jr, 2016). Social science is, in its broadest sense, the study of society and the manner in which people behave and influence the world around us (Economic and Social Research Council)
SOCIAL + SCIENCE Social The interaction of the individual and the group, or the welfare of human beings as of members society. The word" social” situates the whole discipline in people and their social contexts ( Tatel , Jr. 2016) Science Is generally understood as an endeavor to understand, explain and predict the world we live in using distinctive methods of inquiry in an attempt to construct theories ( Okasha , 2002)
Social Science as the Systematic Study of Human Society Social science as a general term for all the sciences which are concerned with the human affairs.
The history of Social Sciences begins in the Age of Enlightenment after 1650. The Social Sciences developed from the sciences (experimental and applied), or the systematic knowledge bases or prescriptive practices relating to the social improvement of a group of interacting entities.
It began at the roots of ancient philosophy. In ancient history, there was no difference between Mathematics and the study of history, poetry or politics. The Age of Enlightenment saw a revolution within natural philosophy, changing the basic framework by which individuals understood what was “scientific”.
HISTORY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE Social Science was influenced by positivism. Auguste Comte used the term “Science sociale ” to describe the field, taken from the ideas of Charles Fourier; Comte also referred to the field as Social Physics.
HISTORY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE Auguste Comte (1798-1853) invented the term sociology .he was the first to systematize and give a complete analysis of the principles of the positive character of the social sciences Montesquieu and Voltaire broke a new path for politics and history
“What is the government doing?” “How we will be able to survive if we don’t have work?” “How come scientist developed things to ease the pollution in our environment yet there are pollution everywhere in my home town?” “When will this pandemic will end?” “How will my family and the people around me react when I open up my true own opinion and feelings?”, “Why they passed that bill into law yet they don’t made time to read the other bill?
Gaining knowledge in history, geography, anthropology, politics, sociology, economics and psychology lead us to develop critical analyzation and open-minded to various situations, actions and to make sound judgments that will affect us an individual human person and our interaction to others, to our environment and to the technologies.
SOCIETY
SOCIETY Society refers to a system of interrelationships which connects individuals together (Giddens, 1990). It is a “common "habitat or environment within which members of a society depend on one another for survival and well being (Harris, 1983). It refers to a group of people who share a culture and a territory. Socialization affects the overall cultural practices of a society and shape one’s image.
How is Social Science related to Society?
Social Sciences focus on the study of society and the relationship among individuals within the society. Social science tells us about the world beyond our immediate experience, and can help explain how our own society works – from the causes of unemployment or what helps economic growth, to how and why people vote, or what makes people happy.
What is Natural Science?
It is a major branch of science that deals with the description, prediction and understanding of natural phenomena, basically based on observational and empirical evidences.
