AIM To study the outcome of breast cancer screening in Thanjavur medical college
OBJECTIVE To study the outcome of breast cancer screening in Thanjavur medical college To identify the confirmed breast cancer patients and study the incidence of breast cancer in their relatives
METHODOLOGY STUDY DESIGN: Prospective observational study STUDY SETTING: Study will be conducted on patients and attenders who are motivated for screening and relatives of positive cases in Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital under Department of General Surgery STUDY SUBJECTS: Patients and attenders and relatives of positive cases in Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital under Department of General Surgery
JUSTIFICATION Breast cancer accounts for 14% of cancers in Indian women A 2018 report of Breast Cancer statistics recorded 1,62,468 new registered cases and 87,090 reported deaths Cancer survival becomes more difficult in higher stages of its growth, and more than 50% of Indian women suffer from stage 3 and 4 of breast cancer It is very much necessary to identify more and to pick up from high risk population
STUDY DURATION: 1 year S AMPLE SIZE: I NCLUSION CRITERIA: A ge > 25 yrs of age Palpable lump Mastalgia
EXCLUSION CRITERIA: Age < 25 years Persons not willing for screening
STUDY In general population >40 yrs – Mammogram In relatives of the patients of Carcinoma breast 25-29yrs – Clinical breast examination >30 yrs – Mammogram Genetic testing for BRCA mutation In relatives of the patients of Carcinoma breast
