Introduction
Definition: Frusemide is a loop diuretic medication used to treat
edema and fluid overload.
- Chemical formula: C12H11ClN2O5S

Mechanism of Action

-inhibits sodium, Potassium and chloride reabsorption in the loop of
Henle
- Increases urine production and reduces fluid volume

Indications
- Edema associated with heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease
- Fluid overload in acute kidney injury and nephrotic syndrome
- Hypertension (in combination with other medications)

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Frusemide or sulfa medications
- Anuria (inability to produce urine)
- Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypokalemia, hyponatremia)

Side Effects
- Common: dizziness, lightheadedness, increased urination
- Rare: electrolyte imbalances, dehydration, hearing loss

Dosage and Administration

- Oral or intravenous administration
- Dosage: 20-600 mg/day (dependent on condition and response)

Interactions
- Potassium supplements and potassium-sparing diuretics
- Other diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and NSAIDs

Monitoring

- Electrolyte levels (potassium, sodium, chloride)
- Urine output and fluid balance
- Blood pressure and kidney function
