Socialization and Enculturation. Before we proceed to our next lesson, “what do we
mean by Socialization and Enculturation? And, what is the importance of socialization
to the development of oneself?

C. Discussion (Explore)
The teacher will explain the definition of agents of socialization to the students.
They will discuss the various agents of socialization, including family, school, peer
groups, religion or church, mass media, and workplace. The teacher will also ask the

AGENTS OF SOCIALIZATION
FAMILY – is the most important agent of primary socialization, which is the process
of mastering the basic skills required to function in society during childhood.
SCHOOL – are largely responsible for secondary, or socialization outside the family
after childhood. In addition, a hidden curriculum teaches students that will be
expected of them in the larger society after they graduate.
RELIGION – it is an agent of socialization and social control. It has significant role
in organizing and directing social life.
MASS MEDIA – television permits imitation and role playing but does not
encourage more complex forms of learning. Technology is socializing families into
multitasking as the social norm.
WORKPLACE – performs its socialization through onboarding. This is the
mechanism through which employees acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and
behavior to become effective organizational members.
D. Developing Mastery (Explain)
For the developing mastery portion of the lesson, the students will have an interactive
activity. In their activity, the students will divide into groups and ask them to create an
editorial cartoon about the 6 agents of socialization.
GROUP ACTIVITY: EDITORIAL CARTOON
Directions: Create an editorial cartoon about the 6 agents of socialization by group.
The following agents will be assign each and present it to the class. Use the rubric
provided below.
