Differences In Episodic Memory
Over the past decade, the recreational marijuana use has been a serious issue because
it may cause memory loss, especially if they started during adolescence. Marijuana,
known as the extract from a type of plant named cannabis, which found to be in
cigarettes, also consumed as an illicit drug. Recreational use means to be something
that denoted occasionally taken for entertainment in a socializing place. A study in
2012 indicates a neuropsychological decline of heavy marijuana user from young to
midlife. In 2015, the researcher carries out an experiment based on that open study, to
show the significant differences in episodic memory(EM) impairments occur among
healthy adult, regular past cannabisuse disorder(CUD) individuals, chronic
schizophrenia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
97 people were involved: 44 healthy adults as control (CON), 10 CUD, 28 SCZ, and
15 SCZ CUD. Participants undergo five stages: Clinical interview, obtaining subject s
history, such as the family report, medical records, and lifetime drug abuse, self
reported treatment, and history of nicotine use also counted in. Secondly, they
went through the Vocabulary subtest to evaluate their memory performance, as to
measure their encoding and retrieval components of EM using standard
neuropsychological paradigms. Also, late recall of coordinated verbal information
needs to be worked out from another Logical Memory II subtest. However, five
people fail to complete it so have to replace with a group level mean
attribution.Next, they did the collection of magnetic resonance scans and
calculation of atlas scaling factor to get the brain volume during alignment.
Furthermore, they applied Large Deformation High Dimensional Brain Mapping
to derive hippocampal surfaces, get on to determine its capacity besides
conducting principal components (PCs) analysis on the surface to survey the
shape. Nevertheless, count the T score at the surface vertex and colour code it on
the mean surface to illustrate inward and outward hippocampus shape differences.
Finally, they analysis all the data with varying models repeatedly across four
distinct groups. Results come out as CUD and CON make differences in both
surface shapes, SCZ CUD has same inward surface shape with SCZ but also
different from both CON and SCZ, still it is similar to CON base on observation,
and SCZ has a sparse variant result of the prior study. Lastly, long duration of drug
abuse in SCZ still associates with marijuana like surface shape even they stopped for
a short period. The authors end up their conclusion that is a
