Formal Dress code for formal jobs

1. DRESS CODE Standard of dress (Circular No. 10 of 2006) Members on duty are expected to maintain a high standard of dress ( WHY? ) in order to keep respect of the general public and uphold dignity and formality expected of them. The PSC has through Circular No. 10 of 2006 directed the following standards of dress for employees :

2. MEN Tie and collar Suits Tailored Safari Suits Sports Jackets (or blazers) AT FORMAL OCCASIONS (Invited to represent Ministry) Suits with tie and collar. Normal standards of dress may be departed from when public servants are working in rural areas or when duties require different considerations. Men are advised to keep jackets in offices – for unexpected meetings and formal occasions.

3. MEN Men should always wear long trousers, a collared shirt , have a jacket and a tie. Remove labels from your suits Do not put on yellow, green and white stockings Do not repeat the same clothes for days. Use powder in shoes for smelly shoes

4. WOMEN Ladies fashion is complex but they should put on correspondingly high standards of dress. The following items are not acceptable when one is reporting for work : Jeans Mini skirts Sleeveless dresses or blouses Strapped dresses or blouses Tops that have low necklines See through garments

5. FOOT WEAR Both men and women are not expected to turn up for work putting on tennis shoes or tackies. As for men, open sandals should only be worn for medical reasons (HODs to request for medical certificates of the affected members).

6. WORST DRESS FOR MEN Vest showing through the shirt. Casual shoes worn with suit. White socks. Greased trousers. Fluff in the trouser turn up. Food stains on tie. Too long or too short tie. Short sleeved shirt under jacket.

7. WORST DRESS FOR MEN Top button of shirt undone when worn with tie. Thin end of tie showing. Big bunches of keys dangling from the belt or pocket. Sandals worn with socks together with tie. Jackets sleeves too long.

8. WORST DRESS FOR FEMALES* Noisy jewellery Sleeveless tops Floral or lacy type of dress See through blouses that show the bra Mini skirts Jeans
