Addiction Addiction is a psychological and physiological dependence on alcohol or other drugs for abuse. It affects the central nervous system in a way that withdrawal symptoms are experienced when the substance is discontinued .

Addiction Drug addition is a condition that include :- Compulsiveness of using drug/substance Abuse of drugs Using drug for pleasure Some common example of drug addition/ substance abuse:- Alcohol, Opioid, Cannabis, Cocaine, Nicotine. Sympathomimetics

De-Addiction De-addiction include:- Assessment of addiction Pharmacological treatment Patient and family counseling Psychotherapy Follow-up & Rehabilitation

Aim/goal of De-Addiction pharmacological treatment De-addiction Medications are used to control- Detoxification of used substance Withdrawal symptoms Reduce craving of using substance Produce/Induce aversion

Common Drugs used in De-Addiction DRUGS NAME USE/INDICATION ACTION Disulfiram (1-3 tablet/day ) 1 tablet = 250 mg Treatment of chronic Alcohol dependence Aldehyde Dehydrogenase inhibitor Diazepam (5-10 mg/day) Using in alcohol withdrawal and cocaine withdrawal. Produce sedation, amnesia and anxiety. Sedative hypnotic Lorazepam (1-2 mg/day) Using in alcohol withdrawal and cocaine withdrawal. Produce sedation, amnesia and anxiety. Sedative hypnotic Thiamine (100-150 mg/day) To prevent vitamin B1 deficiency in alcoholism Thiamine deficiency occurs in alcoholism
