CONTENTS INTRODUCTION (1 SLIDE) LEGEND (2 SLIDES) HOW I CELEBRATED DURGA PUJA (2 SLIDE) ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS (1 SLIDE)
INTRODUCTION Durga Puja is an annual festival of Hindus which comes in the month of September and October. The Puja is celebrated for ten days, but the image is installed on the seventh day. During the last three days the Puja is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety. The images are of different designs and sizes. and is celebrated by worshiping Goddess Durga. Hindu Goddess Durga is believed to have killed the demon Mahishasura. The festival marks “victory of good over evil”. It takes place in the month of Ashwin from the first to the tenth day of the bright fortnight. It is an occasion of great enthusiasm and festivity for the Hindus. On this occasion schools, colleges, and offices are closed for a long holiday. People who live abroad return their homes for celebrating the Puja with their families.
LEGEND There are two legends behind Durga Puja:- Goddess Durga represents a united front of all Divine forces against the negative forces of evil and wickedness. The gods in heaven decided to create an all-powerful being to kill the demon king Mahishasura who was ready to attack them. At that very moment a stream of lightning dazzled forth from the mouths of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh and it turned into a beautiful, magnificent woman with ten hands. Then all the gods furnished her with their special weapons. The image of Durga, the Eternal Mother destroying the demon, Mahishasura is symbolic of the final confrontation of the spiritual urge of man with his baser passions.
LEGEND This festival has immense mythological significance. As per Ramayana, Ram did "chandi-puja and invoked the blessings of Durga to kill Ravana, the ten-headed king of Lanka who had abducted Sita and had charmed life. Durga divulged the secret to Ram how he could kill Ravana. Then after vanquishing him on Vijayadashmi, also known as Dusshera on the tenth day of the puja, Ram with Sita and Laxman returned victorious to his kingdom of Ayodhya on Diwali day.
HOW I CELEBRATED DURGA PUJA I spent my time with my family and friends. My uncle also visited and together we went idol hopping to local places like Deshapriya Park, Beliaghata , Sealdah and many more. There were lots of creative things like crafts and there were a lot of themes.
HOW I CELEBRATED DURGA PUJA At Deshapriya Park, there was a theme of Durga maa with thousand hands, at Beliaghata there was a taxi idol, a drum idol and a peacock idol in which there were lots of crafts like puppets. I really enjoyed it all this puja with my family. We also went to Mani Square. There was an idol too.
