Our Earth By: Carolina Quintana Torrado https://es.slideshare.net/slideshow/earth-s-structure-and-earth-leyers-to-primary-school-pptx/270393375

Objective: Students will understand the Earth's basic structure, including the layers (crust, mantle, outer core, inner core), and key features (mountains, oceans, continents).

Warm Up * Do you remember the structure of the Earth? https://wordwall.net/resource/1675378/science/layers-of-the-earth https://wordwall.net/resource/26183462/science/earths-layers

Earth’s structure 01 Earth’s layers

What’s inside Earth ? If you slice Earth in half, you’ll see that it has four major layers: the crust, the mantle, the outer core and the inner core. Each layer’s unique composition and properties. Many geologists believe that as the Earth cooled the heavier, denser materials sank to the center and the lighter materials rose to the top. Because of this, the crust is made of the lightest materials (rock- basalts and granites) and the core consists of heavy metals (nickel and iron).

The structure of the Earth Inner core The inner core is the solid, central part of the earth. It has a radius of about 1,220 kilometers and is composed of solid iron and nickel. Lower mantle The solid lower mantle contributes to the overall convection and heat transfer within the Earth's interior. Upper mantle The upper mantle is relatively rigid and contains the asthenosphere, a semi-fluid layer that allows the movement of tectonic plates. Outer core The outer core is a liquid layer composed mainly of molten iron and nickel. It has a thickness of about 2,300 kilometers. The crust is the layer that you live on. Crust

Layers of the Earth

Earth's Crust The crust is the layer that you live on, and it is the most widely studied and understood. The crust is the outermost layer of the Earth. It is the thinnest layer, ranging from about 5 to 70 kilometers in thickness. The crust can be further divided into two types: continental crust and oceanic crust. The continental crust is the thicker layer of the Earth's crust that is found under the continents. It is about 35 kilometers thick on average. The oceanic crust is the thinner layer of the Earth's crust that is found under the ocean basins. It is about 7 kilometers thick on average. Continental Crust Oceanic Crust

Earth’Mantle The mantle is the layer that is below the Earth's crust and makes it float . It is semi-liquid and much hotter than can flow. This flow is due to great temperature differences from the bottom to the top of the mantle. The movement of the mantle is the reason that the plates of the Earth move! It is the thickest layer, extending from the base of the crust to a depth of approximately 2,900 kilometers. The mantle can be divided into an upper and lower layer. The upper mantle is a semifluid layer that exerts convection force by moving the tectonic plates . The solid lower mantle contributes to the overall convection and heat transfer within the Earth's interior. Earth's Core The core is the innermost layer of the Earth, situated beneath the mantle. It is divided into two distinct regions: the outer core and the inner core. This is like a ball of very hot metals. (4000 degrees F. to 9000 degrees F.) The magnetic field is generated in the outer core why is so hot that the metals in it are all in the liquid state. The outer core is located about 1800 miles beneath the crust and is about 1400 miles thick. The outer core is composed of the melted metals nickel and iron become the Outher liquid core of our earth. The outer core is a liquid layer composed mainly of molten iron and nickel . becoming the earth's magnetic field. The inner core is the solid, central part of the earth. It has a radius of about 1,220 kilometers and is composed of solid iron and nickel. Outer Core Inner Core

Activity Name the four layers of the Earth in order from the outside to the center of the Earth. What are the two main metals that make up the outer and inner core? What causes the mantle to "flow"? Describe in your own words how the Earth's layers were formed. "The Four Layers" will help you. 01 02 03 04 https://www.liveworksheets.com/c?a=s&t=9ifohxn1o1x&sr=n&l=zw&i=sssoxfd&r=hf&f=dzdczsdu&ms=uz&cd=p4oejwml7j7mlgupppjmenwengnkgpnxxg&mw=hs https://world-geography-games.com/en/world_earth.html
