1. WEATHERING -THE PROCESS THAT BREAKS DOWN ROCKS ON EARTH'S SURFACE INTO SMALLER PARTICLES (LIKE SAND , SILT , AND CLAY) . THIS CAN BE HAPPEN THROUGH PHYSICAL FORCES LIKE TEMPERATURE CHANGES ( CAUSING THE RCKS TO CRACK). CHEMICAL FORCES (EX: WATER REACTING WITH MINERALS.
2. EROSION -IS THE PROCESS WHERE THE ROCKS THAT BREAKS DOWN INTO SMALLER PARTICLES ARE CARRIED AWAY BY FORCES LIKE WATER , GRAVITY ,AND WIND. EXAMPLE: RIVERS MAY CARRY THE PARTICLES TO MOVE THEM DOWNSTREAM.
3.DEPOSITION -AS THE PARTICLES FROM EROSION ARE TRANSPORTED , THEY EVENTUALLY SETTLE DOWN WHEN THE WATER AND WIND SLOWS. NOTE: DEPOSITION HAPPENS IN AREAS LIKE RIVER , LAKES , OR THE OCEAN FLOOR , WHERE PARTICLES CAN NO LONGER BE CARRIED AWAY.
4. SEDIMENTATION -REFERS TO THE PROCESS AFTER LAYERS OF SEDIMENTS BUILDS UP OVER TIME. THESE LAYERS STACK ON TOP OF EACH OTHER WITH THE HEAVIER PARTICLES THAT SETTLED FIRST , FORMING VISIBLE LAYERS.
5. COMPACTION -AS MORE LAYERS ARE DEPOSITED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER ,THE WEIGHT OF THE NEW LAYERS PRESSES DOWN ON THE OLDER ONES .THIS PRESSURE CAUSE THE PARTICLES IN THE LOWER LAYERS TO GET PACKED CLOSER TOGETHER, SQUEEZING OUT THE AIR AND WATER TRAPPED BETWEEN THEM.
6. CEMENTATION -AFTER, COMPACTION, DISSOLVED MINERALS IN THE REMAINING WATER (LIKE SILICA, CALCIUM CARBONATE, OR IRON) START TO CRYSTALLIZE BETWEE N THE SEDIMENT S OR PARTICLES . THESE MINERALS ACT AS A GLUE , BINDING THE PARTICLES TOGETHER TO FORM A SOLID ROCK.
