INTRODUCTION Renewable energies are considered as proper alternative energy, which reduces carbon dioxide emission. Huge amount of vehicles kinetic energy is wasting at speed-breaker By using this kinetic energy we can produce electricity 3
INTRODUCTION (CONTD...) Electro-kinetic road ramp is the method of generating electricity using the kinetic energy of automobiles that drive over ramp. Used to generate power. Input is almost free , so we can produce electricity for free. 4
ROADS IN INDIA India has second largest road network in the world which contributes of over 5472144 km as on 31st march 2015. The 148000 km of a state highway are operational in India. NHAI is responsible for development and management of the network of over 50000 km. 5
ROADS IN INDIA(CONTD…) These road network and vehicles can generate electricity using “Electro-Kinetic Road Ramp” installed on road . 6

METHODOLOGY Kinetic energy is the movement energy of an object. The kinetic energy of car can be converted into other forms of energy. Fig.2 – Electro Kinetic Road Ramp 8
METHODOLOGY(CONTD…) Running vehicle Creating pressure on pressure plates Production of electricity by DC generator Storing energy in rechargeable battery Lightning bulbs in night time 9
RAMP MODEL Ramp is not like usual speed-breaker . Not harmful for the vehicles . The energy that has been generated is environment friendly with almost no pollution . Energy ramp system consist of two parts hardware and software model. 10
RAMP MODEL (CONTD…) Fig.3 – Ramp Model 11
RAMP MODEL (CONTD…) A.HARDWARE MODEL C onsists of gear box, flywheel, drive system and alternator . Slab that is press down by the vehicle which produces translation motion . B attery is attached to alternator & inverter is placed with the battery and a load is attached. 12
RAMP MODEL (CONTD…) Relays are attached for the purpose of controlling First relay is attached between Alternator & Battery S econd is between Battery and Inverter that break the connection Third one is placed between the inverter and the load which indicates the completion of process 13
RAMP MODEL (CONTD…) When 220V pass through inverter, it energies the relay and a connection is produced between the Inverter and the Load. 14
RAMP MODEL (CONTD…) SYSTEM BLOCK DIAGRAM 15
RAMP MODEL (CONTD…) B. SOFTWARE MODEL Limit switch is placed below the slab for the counting of the cars When a car passes over the slab , limit switch signals send to the digital input module PLC is used for monitoring & controlling of the system 16
RAMP MODEL (CONTD…) PC-Based HMI is connected with it for displaying the process. Whole system is fully automated with programmable logic controller PLC Final number of cars are displayed on the PC-Based HMI . 17

ADVANTAGES Pollution free power generation . Low installation and maintenance cost . No manual work is required during the process . No fuel transportation. 19
ADVANTAGES(CONTD...) Less floor area. Energy is available all the year. User friendly system. 20
DISADVANTAGES Easily gets rusted during rainy season May not work for light weight vechile I nitial cost of power ramp may be high. 21
FUTURE SCOPE We can use effective alternators and inverters to get less power loss. We can use more than one crank to drive more alternators . 22
CASE STUDY In June 2009, one of the devices was installed in the car park at a Sainsbury’s supermarket in Gloucester,United Kingdom It provides enough electricity to run all of the store's cash registers. Ramp was invented by Peter Hughes, an electrical and mechanical engineer who is employed by Highway Energy Systems Ltd. 23
CASE STUDY(CONTD…) The company says that under normal traffic conditions The apparatus will produce 30 kW of electricity. Other proposed applications for the road ramps include : Powering street and traffic lights Heating roads in the winter to prevent ice from forming Ventilating tunnels to reduce pollution 24
CONCLUSION Utilized kinetic energy to produce electricity. Generating electricity by harnessing the kinetic energy of automobiles that drive over ramp. Produced electricity which can be used in traffic lights and powering streets . 25
