ELOCUTION COMPETITION The Art of Public Speaking
GENERAL RULES
ARTICLE 1: GENERAL RULES SECTION 1. Contestant. The contestant must be a delegate of good standing, i.e. duly registered and has not violated any house rules. SECTION 2. Contest Category. The contests shall have two mediums, English and Filipino. The events are offered as follows: Elocution (for Grades 1–3 and 4–6), Photo Essay (for Grades 4–6, Junior High School, and Senior High School), Declamation (Junior High School and Senior High School), and Extemporaneous Speaking (for Senior High School).
SECTION 3. Number of Contestants. Each section is allowed to have at least one (1) representative in English and one (1) more representative in Filipino for each contest. SECTION 4. Contestant Identification. Each contestant shall be identified only through numbers assigned by each Contest Committee. SECTION 5. Board of Judges. The Chairmen and Members of the Board of Judges for the different contests shall come with a background knowledge and/or expertise in the disciplines of English or Filipino, language, speaking, and writing, from the academe, and as the Committee may decide.
SECTION 6. Decision of the Board of Judges. The decision of the Board of Judges for each contest is FINAL, NON-APPEALABLE, and IRREVOCABLE. SECTION 7. Briefing/Orientation. The Members of the Board of Judges shall give a minimum of 15 minutes briefing or orientation to the contestants prior to the commencement of each contest. SECTION 8. Contest Awards. The first, second, and third place winners in each category shall receive a medal and certificate of recognition.
RULES FOR ELOCUTION
ARTICLE II. SPECIFIC CONTEST RULES SECTION 1. Elocution. The following rules shall govern the Elocution Contest: a) Participants shall be given an elocution piece that would be announced two weeks before the competition ( Bibigyan ang mga kalahok ng kopya ng elocution na iaanunsiyo dalawang linggo bago ang patimpalak );
b) The speaker is expected to memorize their speech and is not allowed to read any part of the speech from papers, notes, or card ( Inaasahang kabisaduhin ng mga kalahok ang kanilang talumpati , at hindi pinapayagang magbasa ng anumang bahagi ng talumpati mula sa mga papel , tala, o kopya );
c) There would be a team of three judges—involving Teacher Eunice Chavez, Teacher Lesly Donato, and Teacher Cristine Fortes—to evaluate the elocutions and the average of the marks awarded by all judges would be the final score of a particular candidate ( Magkakaroon ng tatlong hurado — na kinabibilangan nina Teacher Eunice Chavez, Teacher Lesly Donato, at Teacher Cristine Fortes— upang suriin ang mga elocution at ang kabuoan ng mga marka na iginawad ng lahat ng mga hurado ay ang magiging puntos para sa isang partikular na kalahok );
d) The marking criteria include: Mastery of the Piece - 30% ( Kasanayan sa Pagbigkas - 30 %), Vocal Aspects - 30% ( Linaw ng Pagbigkas - 30%), Overall Interpretation - 40% ( Pangkalahatang Interpretasyon - 40%). e) Upon submission of the results to the committee, judges' decisions shall be considered final and irrevocable (Sa pagsumite ng nga resulta sa komite , ang desisyon ng mga hurado ay ituturing na pinal at hindi na mababawi );
f) Only three (3) students from Grades 1–3 and (3) students from Grades 4–6 shall be awarded as Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up ( Tatlo lang sa mag- aaral na kalahok mula sa Baitang 1–3 at tatlo rin sa Baitang 4–6 ang mananalo bilang Champion, First Runner-up, at Second Runner-up).
