A short history of virtual reality
1838: The Stereoscope The beginning of 3-D display technology really starts in 1838 with the invention of the Stereoscope. The device was created by a brilliant and eccentric inventor named Sir Charles Wheatstone from England.
1968: The Sword of Damocles The Sword of Damocles was invented by Ivan Sutherland at MIT in 1968. Apart from being a Game-of-Thrones worthy name, The Sword of Damocles is considered to be the first modern VR and AR device. It was the the first device to track a user’s head motion and overlay synthetic 3-D stereoscopic computer generated graphics into their vision. Ivan was not messing around.
1990s: NASA and VPL advancements Advancements made by NASA and VPL made consumer virtual reality seem like it was a possibility and virtual reality sparked mainstream imagination.
Current Virtual reality 2023-2024…. The 10 most innovative companies in augmented and virtual reality of 2023. These AR and VR advances from companies such as Unity, Meta, Google, Niantic, and Varjo —and even Coca Cola—are a preview of where the metaverse could take us.
5G Technology
5G is the 5th generation mobile network. It is a new global wireless standard after 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. 5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices. 5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher multi-Gbps( Gigabits per second) peak data speeds, ultra low latency , more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more uniform user experience to more users. Higher performance and improved efficiency empower new user experiences and connects new industries.
Augmented Reality Augmented Reality (AR) in the IT field refers to the technology that overlays digital elements, such as images, videos, or 3D models, onto the real-world environment, enhancing a user’s perception and interaction with their surroundings. Here are some key points about AR:
