Objectives: Describe a mentally, emotionally and socially healthy person Suggest ways to develop and maintain one’s mental and emotional health Explain how healthy relationships can positively impact health 2

Mental Health Also called the intellectual domain of health. Is the capacity to interpret, analyze and act on information It includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act. It helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy actions. 3

Mental health Someone who is mentally healthy are having an alert mind , knowing how to learn from their mistakes , and recognizing achievements. 4

Positive Mental health allows people to: 5 Realize their full potential Cope with the stresses of life Work productively Make meaningful contributions to their communities

Ways to maintain positive mental health 6

Includes? Getting professional help if necessary Connecting with others Staying positive Getting physically active Helping others Getting enough sleep Developing coping skills 7

Emotional health how one reacts to events in his /her life. It is about our sense of well-being , our ability to cope with life events , and how we acknowledge our own emotions as well as those of others. An emotionally healthy person communicates self-control and self –acceptance, expressing full range of feelings in socially acceptable ways. 8

9 Emotionally healthy Someone who have good coping mechanisms for negative emotions without being self- destructive or becoming a threat to others .

Social health Is how well one gets along with others . Individuals can form healthy and rewarding interpersonal relationships with others . It is reflected by his/ her social skills. Our social health and social wellness are vital parts of our overall health and well-being. 12

13 Socially healthy Someone who gives and accepts, help and respects other people’s uniqueness, balancing social and personal , being able to develop and maintain friendships and networks , and having a supportive network of family and friends.

Dogs can smell your feelings. Dogs can pick up on subtle changes in your scent, which can help him figure out how you are feeling, such as by smelling your perspiration when you become nervous or fearful. 18

Pandas don’t hibernate. When winter approaches, they head lower down their mountain homes to warmer temperatures, where they continue to chomp away on bamboo! 19

Koalas are even more lazy than cats. Koalas don’t have much energy and, when not feasting on leaves, they spend their time dozing in the branches. Believe it or not, they can sleep for up to 18 hours a day! 20

Cats love to sleep. A fifteen-year-old cat has probably spent ten years of its life sleeping. Also, cats use their whiskers as feelers to determine if a space is too small to squeeze through. 21

Some facts about my cats. Traveled by plane. Twice! Of my cats are adorable. 100% 25% 75% Are females. 22
