MANAGING TRUSTEE CEO Our Our Mr. Ganesh Raja Mr. Shivaji Dam Ph.D. in Management from University of Mumbai and Strategic Non Profit Management India from Harvard Business School, Dr. Ganesh Raja, in a career spanning three decades worked with ITC Hotels, Dun & Bradstreet, Bahrain Economic Development Board and Financial Technologies. His last engagement was with ITM Group as Group Director for Business Schools. As the CEO at KEF, he is responsible to continually grow the portfolio of urban slum schools in Mumbai and create outreaches that would impact beneficiaries in multidimensional ways. Shivaji was the first employee of Kotak Mahindra Bank. He was instrumental in making the group a leading financial services organization. He is responsible for establishing KEF which is now a large part of the Group’s CSR.

The Umang Way Umang is a communicative English project with 21st-century skills embedded for 5th -8th grade students through the following activities : In-Class sessions for Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) Out-of-Class activities to practice English in real-life situations Digital and financial literacy skills Collaborations and exposure visits to foster 21st century skills Buddy mentorship to foster peer-learning NEP 2020 aligned multidisciplinary content Project-based learning The Impact Overall 50,000 students have been imparted communicative English skills since 2007. More than 2,000 students collaborate with National and International School buddies every year. 1000 plus students participate in international collaborations for various projects. News studio sessions, Podcasts and various showcase activities for students on KEF’s various social media platforms. The Impact More than 16000 students and 500 teachers from grade 8th to 10th, have benefited from the project. 76 school leaders have been trained to integrate technology in teaching, learning, and assessment. With the help of WIFI internet connections and digital classrooms, a digital ecosystem is being established for partner schools COMMUNICATIVE ENGLISH PROJECT About Umang Umang equips middle school students with communicative English skills. The spoken English Project for students of standard 5 to 8 began in the year 2007. The project offers national and international level exposure to students to participate in events like Design For Change (DFC) , Model United Nations (MUNs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) projects to build their self-confidence and hone the spoken English skills. The Vision of the project is to equip middle school students with Future Ready skills.
Alveera Mohammad Ajaz, Grade 8, Mohammadi Urdu High School Program Highlights and Achievements for 2022-23 Before Umang – A shy child who would not answer directly and her confidence was low. Post Umang – She was very confident in front of a large audience. Context Alveera Mohammad Ajaz, 8th Std, Bouquet student from Mohammadi Urdu High School, was a shy student who would not answer in the class directly but used to answer to her friends. Her confidence was very low while interacting with KEF and school teachers. Action Umang teacher realized her shyness & provided various opportunities like assembly, talking notice board and Buddy collaboration activities to boost her confidence. As trained by Umang teacher, she shared grammar videos, Kahoot games that helped her to frame sentences. Result • Alveera participated in Umang annual event Rayz and was selected just 3 days before the event. She learned her dialogues & practiced with intonations, voice modulations and expressions. She was very confident in front of a large audience. • She has shown a 3 level jump that is from Pre remedial to Average in the Bouquet posttest
SCHOOL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROJECT The LEAD Way The LEAD project adopts an inside-out approach where the personal practices of the school leaders are strengthened, followed by which the team and instructional practices are strengthened, to build a sustainable school culture and this is done by undertaking the following activities The Impact Lead has worked in 147 schools with close to 800 School Leaders 90% of schools have adopted literacy and numeracy development practices. 76% of schools have created their School Development Plans incorporating Leadership Development, Team Development, Instructional Development and Whole School Development in their plans. 78% of schools have initiated Class Observation and 6 step written feedback mechanism in their schools 63% of schools have either class teachers’ PLC (Professional Learning Community) or Subject Teachers’ PLC in their school. 61% of schools have taken proactive steps to improve class 10 results by data analyses and setting up of a Pastoral Care system for their students. 55 Head Teachers have won innovation idea Awards and 13 have won innovation accomplished Awards from about 300 submissions each year. About Lead Lead project works with the objective of strengthening leadership and managerial practices of KEF partner school leaders so as to enable them to create, sustain and lead a culture of academic and personal success for all their students. Exposure Visit Exposure Visits to learn from best local and global practices in education. ICDI Session ICDI or ‘I can do it’ mentoring sessions to integrate their learnings into daily routine. Group Workshop Group Workshops to sensitize and coach school leaders in leadership, good governance and education.
Ruhi Shaikh Before LEAD VILT – The school never conducted ASER tests and they also didn't know the use of this test in different contexts. The school did not have a vision, mission and school development (SDP) . Earlier they used to conduct parents and teachers meetings using traditional methods. After LEAD VILT Program – The PHM attended regular ICDI sessions and workshops organized by LEAD. She learn variouspractices like Parentsmeeting, Staff meeting, Schoolvision, SDP, Literacy& Numeracy and many more during the sessions. She had deep discussions with the facilitator and her team on these topics. She realized that they need to move from the traditional approach towards the modern approach where every voice is heard, people are acknowledged and appreciated. She realized the importance of having a personal vision as well as the school vision that is aligned with the School Development Plan. Program Highlights and Achievements for 2022-23
The DLS Way Digital Learning Solution has successfully launched innovative solutions to enable digital equity and strengthen technology integration in urban vernacular medium schools amongst teachers, students and parents. Vaishali Sawant Sriram Vidyamandir Before DLS O-Teach – She was not conversant with the creation of Google forms. The learning outcomes created for lessons were not specific After DLS – After attending the O-Teach sessions and receiving personalized intervention through TA sessions, Mrs. Sawant has shown remarkable progress Context She has successfully created a Google form and implemented it in her class. She has also shared her lesson plan, incorporating Bloom's action verbs for specific outcomes. Mrs. Sawant has started using small group strategies in her class with the help of tab content. Her growth in integrating technology and pedagogy has been commendable. Action Mrs. Vaishali Sawant participated in OTeach sessions to enhance her technological skills and knowledge. The sessions focused on topics such as shared leadership, delegation, prioritizing tasks, reflection, planning, and group decision making. Result As a result of the OTeach sessions, Mrs. Vaishali Sawant gained proficiency in technology, including the creation of Google forms. This development in her technological skills has likely contributed to her professional growth and effectiveness as a teacher at Sriram Vidyamandir. Program Highlights and Achievements for 2022-23
The vision of the program is to ensure the universal acquisition of foundational literacy and numeracy, enabling every child to achieve desired learning competencies in reading, writing, and numeracy by Grade IV. This will be achieved by equipping teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to effectively teach foundational skills, resulting in improved learning outcomes for students. KEF believes that teachers are central to creating a conducive and supportive learning environment within the school. Hence our project provides support to teachers to implement new-age pedagogical approaches that align with developmentally appropriate practices of FLN. This includes employing innovative teaching methods, interactive activities, and differentiated instruction to cater to the diverse learning needs of students. The FLN Way The project focuses on supporting teachers in their professional development and enhancing their capacity to effectively teach foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills. The following are the activities conducted by us: Workshops and Seminars: Engaging teachers in interactive workshops and seminars to provide them with theoretical knowledge and practical strategies for teaching FLN effectively. Hands-on support: Providing teachers with hands-on sessions where they can practice implementing FLN techniques and strategies in a supportive environment. Ongoing Support and Mentoring: Providing continuous support and mentoring to teachers throughout the program cycle by addressing their concerns, and guiding them in implementing FLN effectively. Provide resources to teachers to support their professional development and enhance their instructional effectiveness. Improve student outcomes by helping students to acquire strong FLN skills by providing students with access to a variety of resources specifically designed to enhance their FLN skills. These resources include age-appropriate reading materials, worksheets, interactive learning tools, and educational games. FOUNDATIONAL LITERACY and Numeracy (FLN) About FLN Project Improving Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) skills among students by the end of fourth grade remains a significant challenge in our education system. To tackle this issue, the Ministry of Education has implemented numerous initiatives to provide comprehensive support. KEF proposes a project that brings together key stakeholders, including PHMs/School Leaders, Teachers, and Parents, to collectively work towards improving learning outcomes in schools. .
SCHOLARSHIP PROJECT About Excel The Excel Project supports continuity in education for meritorious students from Class 11 until Graduation from underserved communities by offering scholarship, academic support and life skills support thereby helping families to rise above poverty. The Impact 2141 meritorious scholars were supported and guided under 10+, 12+ and Kotak Kanya scholarship. Since its inception in 2007, the 670 students have graduated and over 82% of students i.e. 500 students have been employed. 65 students are pursuing postgraduate studies. Through the support of the project 189 students have become Engineers, 9 doctors, 54 para medical professionals , 147 finance professionals and 2 students who are contributing as Armed Forces Personnel. Excel Scholars are placed in prestigious companies like Deloitte, L&T, Capgemini, TCS, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank to name a few . KEF has provided financial aid to 1516 students under Kotak Shiksha Nidhi.
Nisha Ramkumar Jaiswal - Kotak Kanya Scholarship Nisha Ramkumar Jaiswal is a beneficiary of the Kotak Education Foundation and has achieved remarkable success in her academic journey. She secured an astonishing result in her HSC exam, scoring 93.67% and standing first in National Sarvodaya College in the Science stream. Nisha's dedication, focus, and hard work have been instrumental in her achievements. In her college, Nisha emerged as the subject topper in various subjects, including Biology, Physics, Math, IT, and Chemistry. She scored exceptionally well, with 99/100 in Biology, 98/100 in Physics, 97/100 in Math, 96/100 in IT, and 91/100 in Chemistry. Her consistent and regular studies, along with her determination, have played a crucial role in her academic success. Nisha's success story is even more inspiring considering the challenges she faced. Hailing from a financially weak family, she did not have the privilege of attending coaching classes. Despite these obstacles, she managed to top her college, which is a remarkable achievement comparable to climbing th top of Mount Everest. Education has been Nisha's way out of her family's challenging financial situation. She recognized that excelling in her education could bring her family and herself out of their present condition. Nisha firmly believed that there are no shortcuts to success, and consistent and regular studies are the key to scoring well. She started studying more efficiently and effectively from her schooling days, and her outstanding performance is a testament to her hard work. Nisha's success story serves as an inspiration to many. She has proven that with confidence, dedication, and hard work, one can overcome obstacles and achieve great heights. Livelihood Project About Unnati Unnati is a skill development and livelihood project for the unemployed urban youth from underprivileged families who have dropped out of school or are undergraduate/ graduate aspirants. The project aims to support these individuals to become contributing members of their community, thus helping their families break the vicious circle of poverty. The Unnati Way Unnati supports the skill development of the aspirants by conducting the following: Zero-cost training programs and certification is provided to the participants. Domain Specific training is provided on: BANKING FINANCIAL SERVICES & INSURANCE ADVANCE BEAUTY COSTUMER RELATIONS & SALES HOSPITALITY MULTI-SKILLED TECHNICIAN The program includes personality development and English-speaking training to equip the youth with the necessary professional skills. 100% placement assistance is provided by KEF to all eligible participants to secure a job and embark on a sustainable livelihood journey. Exposure visits and guest lectures are organized to give the aspirants a better understanding of the opportunities and accountability required from them. The Impact KEF has 7 centers in Mumbai and one in Pune in collaboration with Yashaswi Academy. All the 7 centers conduct domain-specific training. More than 23,000+ aspirants have enrolled and 73% have been placed in the organized sector.
Raksha Hanumanta Gaikwad Before Unnati – Raksha's father worked as a taxi driver, and her family struggled to meet their daily needs due to their below-average income. After Unnati – Raksha aspired to become a Store Manager and support her parents in paying the EMI for a house they planned to buy in the coming year. She cracked her interview and joined Good Flippin' Burgers as a Trainee Associate. Context Raksha Hanumanta Gaikwad from Worli lives with her parents and siblings, her dad is a taxi driver, her mother is a housewife, one brother is a bartender, and the other one is studying in college. Her family income was below average, around Rs 15,000 a month, making it difficult for them to meet their daily needs. Raksha aspires to become a Store Manager and support her parents in paying the EMI for the house they plan to buy in the coming year. The result of Raksha Hanumanta Gaikwad's participation in the Unnati project was her successful completion of the CRS training. Action Raksha Hanumanta Gaikwad, from a family with below-average income, decided to participate in the Unnati project, aspiring to become a Store Manager. She successfully completed the CRS (Customer Relationship & Sales) training provided by the project. Result Upon completion of her training, Raksha was able to secure a job. She successfully cracked her interview and joined Good Flippin' Burgers as a Trainee Associate. This job placement is a step towards her aspiration of supporting her parents financially, specifically in their plan to pay the EMI for a house they intend to purchase in the coming year.
