Advanced Techniques using Microsoft Excel

ACTIVITY 1: ARRANGE ME! Arrange the scrambled letters to form the correct word or words. 12

1. EETDAEPRSHS What is a spreadsheet? 1. SPREADSHEET It is a software application that enables a user to save, sort and manage data. Spreadsheets have become one of the widely used software programs, and MS Excel is the most used spreadsheet tool. Spreadsheets can be used to determine statistical analysis, compute student’s grades, keep track business accounts and inventories, and manage databases.

2. NMSLUCO and WORS 2. COLUMNS and ROWS Columns – identified with alphabetic headings Rows - identified with numeric headings

3. LLCES - are the intersection of rows and columns Cell Reference also known as cell address that identifies a cell on a worksheet. 15 3. CELLS ACTIVE Cell the currently selected cell in a spreadsheet and is indicated by a bold outline that surrounds the cell.

4. STETX It identifies the purpose of a cell, it can be a brief instruction, a title or caption. 16 4. TEXTS 5. CNSOTTAN 5. CONSTANT A VALUE THAT DOESN’T CHANGE AND IS DIRECTLY INSERTED INTO A CELL.

6. AURFLOM also known as mathematical equations is an expression that calculates the value of a cell. Cell reference are used when creating formulas in excel to ensure that your formulas are accurate. Look at the table on the right, instead of using the actual values which are 5, 10, and 20 it uses the cell references A1, A2, and A3. 17 6. FORMULA

7. CALTHEMAMATI TORSPERAO MICROSOFT Excel uses standard operators for formulas. 18 7. MATHEMATICAL OPERATORS

8. FTIONSNCU These are pre-defined formulas that are already available in MICROSOFT Excel. 8. FUNCTIONS

ACTIVITY 2: DESCRIBE ME!!! DESCRIBE WHAT MICROSOFT EXCEL FUNCTIONS OR FOMULA ARE USED IN EACH TABLE. 1.

Adds all the numbers in a range of cells. 1. SUM

Sumif- Adds the cells specified by a given condition or criteria. SUMIF function has the following syntax: SUMIF (range, criteria, sum_range ) Range - The range of cells that you want to evaluate based on a given criteria. Criteria – It determines which cells will be added. Sum_Range – These are the cells containing numeric values and the cells to add if the condition is met. 22

23 2 .

Counts the number of cells that contain numbers. 24 2. count

COUNTIF - Counts the number of cells within a range that meet a single criterion that you specify. COUNTIF function has the following syntax: COUNTIF(range, criteria) Range – The range of cells to count. Criteria – The criteria that determines which cells to be counted. 25

26 3 .& 4.

Returns the smallest number in a set of values. 27 3. MIN 4. MAX Returns the largest value in a set of values.

28 5.

Returns the average (arithmetic mean) of the arguments. 29 5. AVERAGE

30 AVERAGEIF - Returns the average (arithmetic mean) of all the cells in a range that meet a given criteria. AVERAGEIF has the following syntax (range, criteria, average_range ) Range - The range of cells that you want to apply the criteria. Criteria – It determines which cells to average. Average_Range – These are the cells containing numeric values and the actual set of cells to average.

This function is one of the most popular functions in Excel. It can perform a logical test and returns one value if TRUE, and another value if FALSE. 31 6. IF IF ( logical_test , value_if_true , value_if_false ) Logical Test - A value or logical expression that can be evaluated as True or False. Value if True – The value to return if the logical test or logical expression evaluates to TRUE. Value if False – The value to return if the logical test or logical expression evaluates to FALSE.

COMMONLY USED MS EXCEL FUNCTIONS 32

ACTIVITY 2: LET’S SOLVE!! Directions: There are two (2) excel tables given, use the correct formula or function to solve the given problems. 33

RUBRICS for the activity in MS Excel Functions Solving Problems using MS Excel Functions EXCELLENT 5 POINTS GOOD 4 POINTS FAIR 3 POINTS POOR 2 POINTS EXCEL FUNCTIONS Functions were used appropriately. All formulas were used to solve the problem. One function is missing and incorrect. There is a missing answer to solve for the problem. Two function is missing and incorrect. There are two missing answers to solve for the problem. Three functions is missing and incorrect. There are three missing answers to solve for the problem. DIRECTIONS All directions were followed accurately and completely Most of the directions were followed accurately. Some of the directions were followed. None of the directions were followed. Cooperation Members are on tasks on cooperating and have always defined their responsibilities. Members know their task have and have defined responsibilities. Members have defined responsibilities most of the time. Members do not know their task and have no defined responsibilities.

ACTIVITY 3: GROUP, GROUP, GROUP. 35 You will be divided into two groups. Group 1: This group will describe a function and make a problem to be solve by Group 2. Group 2: This group will have to use excel functions to solve the problem provided by Group 1.

SITUATION 1: Sarah is a housewife; her husband Ben is busy working on their family business. Aside from taking care of their kids, she is also the one who is in-charge for the monthly groceries. Her husband wants to know their monthly expenses. Sarah had difficulties in tracing their expenses. How can we help Sarah? 36 SITUATION 2: Teacher Mercedes wants to know the number of her students who scored 25 and above in the first quarter examination. What excel function are you going to suggest to Teacher Mercedes to use?

37

38

TEST I. MATCHING TYPE. Match the terms in Column A to the words being described in Column B. Write only the letter of the correct answer. 39

40 TEST Ii . Use the correct formula or function to solve the given problems. (2 points each) Problems can be found in each computers in computer laboratory.

41 Assignment: Answer the following questions and write your answer on your notebook. 1. What is the importance of using Microsoft Excel? 2. Determine other instances where you can use the COUNTIF, SUMIF, and AVERAGEIF functions. 3. How does Excel interpret data?
