END IT NOW STOPPING ABUSE

Sin started with ABUSE

IN THE BIBLE INHABITANS OF SODOM AND GOMORRAH and blatant sexual abuse. JOSEPH was abused by his brothers. LEVITE OF JUDGES 19 treated his concubine like property. FAMILY VIOLENCE OF KING DAVID when Amnon raped his half sister Tamar, later Absalom avenged her. ABIGAIL LIKELEY SUFFERED UNDER NABAL’S harsh and evil doings.

IN THE BIBLE THE OLD TESTAMENT is filled with violence, and God’s prophets regularly preached against it. IN THE NEW TESTAMENT God in flesh suffers abuse at the hands of His own children. The father wound. THE BIBLE is by no means silent on thi s subject.

TYPES OF ABUSE SEXUAL: Even men can be abused as in the story of Samson and Delilah PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE EMOTIONAL ABUSE GOSSIP SELFISHNESS AND LAZINESS: 1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Knowledge is POWER

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

John 14:15 If you love Me , keep My Commandments.

Abuse is about MALICIOUS CONTROL over another.

Abusers tend to become very attached to their victims.

1 Samuel 16:21 So David came to Saul and stood before him. And he loved him greatly, and he became his armorbearer.

1 Samuel 16:23 And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul, that David would take a harp and play  it  with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.

INSECURITY and JEALOUSY is common among abusers.

Galatians 5:19 - 20 19  Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,  20  idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,

Galatians 5:21 * envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told  you  in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:22, 23 * 22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness,  faithfulness,  23  gentleness, self-control.

Sudden and inexplicable MOOD SWINGS.

James 1:19 * So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

Even when not enraged EFFORTS ARE MADE TO HURT .

1 Samuel 18:21 * So Saul said, “I will give her to him, that she may be a snare to him, and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him.” Therefore Saul said to David a second time, “You shall be my son-in-law today.”

MALICIOUS ACTIONS appearing as generous and kind.

Most abusers SEE THEMSELVES AS THE VICTIM.

1 Samuel 23:21 * And Saul said, “Blessed  are  you of the  Lord , for you have compassion on me.

Masters of TURNING THE TRUTH UPSIDE-DOWN .

Biblical HEADSHIP AND SUBMISSION is often abused.

Masters of TURNING THE TRUTH UPSIDE-DOWN .

1 Samuel 20:1 * Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and went and said to Jonathan, “What have I done? What  is  my iniquity, and what  is  my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?”

1 Samuel 19:9 * Now the distressing spirit from the  Lord  came upon Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing  music  with  his  hand.

Those who desire to help must learn to recognize common abusive traits.

Victims can learn to become angry

Proverbs 22:24 Make no friendship with an angry man, And with a furious man do not go,

Proverbs 22:25 * Lest you learn his ways And set a snare for your soul.

You are not a doormat.

Propensity for PRETENDED REPENTANCE .

Luke 23:34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”

FORGIVENESS IS Releasing yourself from anger, bitterness, and resentment that someone who has wronged you has caused.

FORGIVENESS IS NOT Pretending nothing happened. Making excuses. Living in abuse because the abuser’s salvation relies on you converting them. Allowing an abuser to continue to abuse you and/or others.

Saul never actually repented.

Domestic violence can actually turn deadly.

Repentance takes time to demonstrate.

Recognizing the characteristics is one of the first steps in learning to help rather perpetuate the problem.

THERE IS HOPE.

Luke 23:34 But Jesus looked at  them  and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the  Lord   is  good; Blessed  is  the man  who  trusts in Him!
