Review: Directions: Read and answer each question. What form of energy do plants give when you eat them ? What form of energy is possessed by the ringing bell in the church tower? What form of energy is present in a glowing charcoal? The form of energy produced b y the flow of negatively charged particles called electrons through conductors that allow electricity to pass through. What form of energy possessed by an athlete running and jumping to catch a ball?
Transformation of Energy
Activity Proper Directions: Observe how energy is transformed in the objects when they work. Procedure 1. Light the candle. Observe what happens. 2. Turn on your electronic radio. 3. Place the battery in the battery-operated car. Turn it on. Observe what happens.
In this activity you have seen how energy is transformed. Energy transformation is a process by which energy is changed or converted into another form. How about energy from the sun? When radiant energy strikes the earth’s surface, some of this energy is used by plants in the process of photosynthesis. This process converts radiant energy of the sun into chemical energy which is stored in the plants. When humans or animals eat plants, the chemical energy in the plant is transferred and becomes chemical energy in the human or animal’s body.
As animals perform body processes like digestion, respiration, and circulation, their processes are powered by the chemical energy stored in their body, which is then transformed into mechanical energy. As chemical energy is transformed to mechanical energy due to various body activities, heat is released, which is another form of energy.
Figure 4 below show energy transformation of radiant energy.
Hydroelectric dam that transforms the kinetic energy of water into electrical energy .
Examples of Energy Transformation 1.Energy transformation also occurs in some objects that you use. In your activity, when you lighted a lamp or candle , the chemical energy of the lamp is changed into light energy , and at the same time, heat is produced. Chemical Energy Light and Heat Energy 2. It is also similar to your toy car. Your toy car works because of the battery in it. As you turn on your toy car, the chemical energy causes the machines to move . This chemical energy is changed into mechanical energy . Chemical Energy Mechanical Energy
3. When electronic radio was turned on , it used the electrical energy . The electrical energy is changed into sound energy. Electrical Energy Sound Energy 4. When you switch on the flashlight , the chemical energy stored in batteries is converted into light and heat energy . Most of the energy is converted to light . Chemical Energy Light Energy and Heat
Alternative Sources of Energy Renewable Energy Non-renewable Energy Wind Energy Fossil Fuel (Coal, petroleum, natural gas, oil) Water Geothermal Energy Biomass Energy Nuclear Energy Tidal Energy (Tides) Solar Energy
Directions. Fill in the blanks to demonstrate the energy transformation in the given situations below. 1. The boy eats banana to enable him to actively move. ______________ to ______________ 2. Ana plugs and turns on the radio to listen to beautiful music. ______________ to ______________ 3. it is brown out. Mang Jose lighted a candle to illuminate the room. ______________ to ______________ 4. Ironing of wrinkled clothes ______________ to ______________ 5.
