At the end of the lesson, you are expected to : Write dialogues to demonstrate the use of the following sentences: the declarative sentence , interrogative sentence , exclamatory sentence , and imperative sentence.
SENTENCE - is a group of words which expresses a complete thought. It is easy to say exactly what or the topic that the group of words talks about. It is also easy to understand what is being said about the topic.
EXAMPLES: 1. The girl played volleyball. 2. Doctors are dedicated people. 3. Mothers prepared food for lunch. 4. The boys helped washed the plates.
There are four types of sentences according to use 1. Declarative sentence 2. Interrogative sentence 3. Exclamatory sentence 4. Imperative sentence
Declarative sentence tells something or states a fact or condition. It ends with a period (.) It is the most common kind of sentence.
Examples: 1. I am in grade three. 2. Today is rainy day. 3. We live in a big house. 4. My sister has beautiful hair.
Interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends with a question mark (?). It my begin with “who”, what,where,when,why or how.”
Examples: 1. Who is your teacher? 2. What are you doing? 3. Why are you crying? 4. How many pencils you have?
An interrogative sentence may also begin with a verb be or a helping verb. The subject is between the helping verb and the main verb. It ends with a question mark (?).
Example: 1. Is David at home? 2. Will he go to the office? 3. Do they love me?
Exclamatory sentence shows surprise or a strong feeling. It uses interjections, expressions of a strong feelings, such as wow, my goodness, oh. It ends with an exclamation point (!).
Examples: 1. Yes! We made it! 2. Wow! It’s amazing! 3. Oh no! Ww are in a wrong way! 4. Go faster!
Imperative sentence gives a command or make a request. Ask the listener or reader to do something it ends with period (.). A request may also use the expressions “ please” or “ kindy ”. The subject is understood you , the person address.
Examples: 1. Please help me. 2. Kindly visit the doctor. 3. Show me your artwork.
