What visual and multimedia elements are present in the picture?

(EN5VC-IVd1.7.1) Analyzing Visual and Multimedia Elements

Some books are made up of only written words. Readers of these books have to imagine what is going on by creating images of the characters and setting in their minds.

Other books, however, include visual elements—drawings or photos that readers can see. Sometimes, books are even made into films or online activities that include multimedia elements such as sounds and animations.

These visual and multimedia elements affect how readers interact with and respond to the story. (Greacen, 2019)

Multimedia elements combine more than one medium, typically in digital forms, such as computers, audio players, tablets, smartphones, and other technology. (Jenkins, 2019).

These elements help the readers use their senses, such as sight and sound, to experience what they are reading. Examples of multimedia elements are videos, audio recordings, sound effects, and interactive images.

The visual elements are the pictures, illustrations, graphics, and drawings that add meaning or tone to literary texts such as fiction folktales or poetry. (Greacen, 2019).

Example of a Visual Element:

BIRDS Yellow and blue, small and big Up, up they flew! Over the trees, Across the river   They enjoyed the sunny summer day. Below the ground Someone points up towards the sky. And watch the birds fly so high.

What is Multimedia? Multimedia elements combine more than one medium, typically in digital forms, such as computers, audio players, tablets, smartphones, and other technology. These elements help the reader use sight, sound, and sometimes even other senses to experience what they're reading.

Video is an electronic medium for the recording, copying, playback, broadcasting, and display of moving visual media.

Audio recording and sound effects is an artificially created or enhanced sound, or sound process used to emphasize artistic or other content of films, television shows, live performance, animation, video games, music, or other media.

Interactive Images images that let the reader click on certain images or words to learn more information about them, including how the words, sounds, its definitions, and important facts.

Visual and multimedia elements can help readers clarify meaning while reading in many ways. Visuals and/or interactive images help the reader understand the vocabulary being used in the text.

Visual and multimedia elements For example, if you didn’t know about kryptonite, a picture of the rock and what it does to Superman would let you know that it hurts him. Visuals or a video presentation of a text can clarify what a character is feeling or thinking through their facial expressions and body language.

Visual and multimedia elements Moreover, these elements can help you understand the order of events in a text or understand what an event looked like when it happened.

Visual and multimedia elements Hence, integrating visuals and multimedia platforms in all learning areas would make students develop specific skills such as fluency and comprehension, orthographic and phonological awareness, and engagement.

Visual and multimedia elements Thus, interventions like these have consistently shown a positive impact on students' reading skills and reading attitude, and the program has been adopted in further large-scale studies.
