ENGLISH 7 FIRST QUARTER

Objectives: Identify the Different Types of Sentences and the punctuations used. Give emphasis on the use of punctuation marks in the delivery of sentences. Classify sentences according to each type, such as, Declarative, Interrogative, Imperative and Exclamatory Sentences.

TYPES OF SENTENCES

DECLARATIVE A declarative sentence is used to provide information about something or make statements and almost always ends in a period . Used to make statements or relay information.

Examples: 1. The dog jumped over the fence. Covid -19 pandemic took two years of our education. 3. Jessie got a perfect score.

INTERROGATIVE Interrogative sentences ask questions . They always end in a question mark . Often, interrogative sentences begin with who, what, where, when, why, how, or do .

Examples: 1. Where have you been? What have you done during the pandemic? 3. How are you?

IMPERATIVE An imperative sentence is used to make a command , and ends with a period. Essentially, instead of conveying information, an imperative sentence tells someone to do something.

Examples: Get me a glass of water. Close the door when you leave. Help me take the trash out.

EXCLAMATORY An exclamatory sentence is used to convey a strong emotion and most often ends with an exclamation mark . Just like a declarative sentence, an exclamatory sentence makes a statement about something, but with a stronger impression .
