16. CHOICE ACTION OR IF. The Type of conditional sentence are as follow :

It is also called “ Probeble Condition”, meaning something is possible to occur now or in the future if the condition fulfilled .    Examples : Verbal Sentence : If Diana study hard, she will get a good score. Fact : (Diana may study hard, she may get a good score ). Nominal sentence : If he is lazy, he will be fail. Fact : ( He may be Lazy, he may be fail). Verbal/Nominal : If I come late, she will not be happy. Fact : ( I may come late, she may not be happy). Pattern: If +S+V(1), S + M(1) + V(1) Type I (Future Conditional)

Type II (Present Conditional) It is called “Improbable”, meaning you are just imagining something, and it is contrary to the fact in the present time.   Examples : Verbal sentence : If Diana studied hard, she would get a good score. Fact : (Diana does not study hard (so) she does not get a good score ). Nominal sentence : If he were lazy, he would be fail. Fact : (He is not lazy (so) he is not fail ). Verba /Nominal : If I came late, she would not be happy. Fact : ( I did not come late (so) she is happy). Pattern: If + S +V(2), S + M(2) +V(1)

Type III ( Past Conditional) It is an “Impossible Condition”, meaning it is contrary to the fact in the past and there is no hope for the situation to occur because you were imagining something in the past . Pattern : If + S + Had + V(3) ,S+ M(3) +Have + V(3) Examples : Verbal sentence : If Diana had studied hard, she would have gotten a good score. Fact : ( Diana did not study hard (so) she did not get a good score).

Nominal sentence : If he had been lazy, he would have been fail . Fact : (he was not lazy (so) he was not fail) . Verbal/Nominal : If I had Come late, she would not have been happy. Fact : (I did not come late (so) she was happy ). We also use the past tense to refer to present unreality after the verb “wish”. The verb “if only” and “ I’d rather” also expresses the wish of the speaker.

Example : I wish (that) I were rich! If only I were rich! I’d rather you told me frankly what you think There are three distinct types of I wish/if only sentence : Regrets with the past perfect (The third conditional) Example : She wishes she hadn’t got so angry Wanting change for the present or future with the past simple Example : I wish I had enough money to go to Mozambique this Summer. Complaints with would + infinitive Example : I wish you wouldn’t arrive so late all the time.

EXAMPLE :   Mother : you … in sunc trouble if you … to my advice Riana : I really regret it now, Mum. You’re right. Hadn’t been/listened Aren’t/will listen Wouldn’t be/had listened Won’t be/were listening
