Good Morning children !

How are you today?

Preparation

Directions: Read the short passage below.

Forests are essential to our survival and well-being. Forests can clean our air, our water, and our soil, and they regulate our climate, amongst many other things. Trees and forests are not always associated with urban landscapes. However, there, too, they provide invaluable, often, invisible services.

What is the text all about? Why forests essential to our survival and well-being?

LESSON PROPER

Directions: Read the paragraph carefully.

Access to green environments make us happier and our bodies healthier. Scientific studies show that urban forests and green spaces help improve physical heath and mental well-being.

With more than three quarters of Europeans living in urban areas, trees, forests, and green spaces mean more than ever before.

Is the paragraph an explanation text-type?

APPLICATION

Directions: Read the following sentences . Identify which sentence DOES NOT explain the importance of planting trees.

GENERALIZATION

An explanation text is a non-fiction text that is used to describe how or why things happen.

It begins with the topic, describes items related to the topic in the right order, and explains how these items are related to each other. It may have a conclusion.

When do I use it? To tell or explore how things work or how they came to be.

EVALUATION

A.Directions : Read each text-type. Write YES if it gives explanation and NO if it does not.

________10. The building up of gases in the Earth’s atmosphere causes the green house effect. With so many gases in the atmosphere, Earth becomes like greenhouse because heat from the surface cannot easily escape into the outer space. Because of gases that block the heat from escaping to the outer space, there is global warming, thus, the temperature of the Earth rises.

ASSIGNMENT

Read some more explanation texts for our discussion tomorrow.
