report for 2022, 9 out of 10 or
91% of Filipino children were still
struggling to read simple texts by
age 10.

Education (DepEd) implemented
a reading program that is part of
the initiatives of DepEd to
improve literacy skills.

8. During the launching, Vice
President and DepEd Sec. Sara
Duterte was there to support the
launch of the program for
National Reading Month.

9. “All learners from kindergarten to
grade 12 shall use the time to read
books, articles, and other reading
materials based on their interests,"
Sara Duterte stated.

10. Catch-up Fridays are key for
Filipino students to enhance and
improve their literacy skills; By
emphasizing reading and
comprehension.
