Homonym Homonym is a semantic relation that describes a word that has unrelated senses. Two types of homonym : Homograph : two different meanings that share the same form. Example : Letter Can be written message Can be alphabet Apel (Indonesia) Bisa berarti berkumpul Bisa berarti buah Bagas (Batak toba dan Batak mandailing) Bisa berarti sesuatu yang dalam (batak toba) Bisa berarti rumah (batak mandailing)   Homophone : two different meanings that share the same sound. Example : Ant and Aunt Ant is an animal, Aunt is the sister of one's father or mother or the wife of one's uncle.   Massa dan Masa (Indonesia) Massa berarti orang yg berkumpul di suatu tempat; masa berarti waktu.   Kerek (Batak Mandailing) dan Kere (Indonesia) Kerek berarti monyet (batak mandailing); Kere berarti tidak punya uang atau minim uang (Indonesia)

Synonym Synonyms are words with similar meanings. They are listed in a special type of dictionary called thesaurus. Synonym with denotative meaning. Example: smart, intelligent. Pintar, cerdas. Pistar, bisuk (Batak)   Synonym with connotative meaning. Example : Silence, shut up. Cantik, indah

Antonym Antonym Antonyms are words with opposite meanings. Example : Bad X Good Deep X Narrow Tall X Short Bersih X Kotor Banyak X Sedikit Balga X Gelleng (Batak toba)

Hyponym Hyponym is the logical relationship of inclusion Example: Superordinate : Fruit Hyponim: Apple, Strawberry, Banana, and so on.   Superordinate: Warna Hyponim: Hijau, Merah, Biru, dll   Superordinate: Sipanganon (Batak) Hyponym: Indahan, Lappet.  

Meronym Meronym is a term that is used to describe a part/whole relationship between lexical items. Example: Whole: Car Part: Tire, Machine, Seat, Seatbelt.   Whole: Pohon Part: Ranting, Daun, Akar, Batang.   Whole: Jabu (Rumah – Batak toba) Part: Pintu, Jandela, Podoman,

Ambiguity Ambiguity is a relationship of meaning that involves only one expression that has more than one interpretation. Example The professor said on Monday he would give an exam.  This sentence means either that it was on Monday that the professor told the class about the exam or that the exam would be given on Monday . Mobil pegawai baru sedang diperbaiki di bengkel It can means the new employee’s car getting fixed or new car of the employee getting fixed

Polisemy Polysemy is the relationship of meaning that involves a word or phrase with various and/or related meanings or interpretations Example : The house is at the foot of the mountain. One of his shoes felt too tight for his feet. Dengan "tinggi" 180 cm, Rusman menjadi siswa paling tinggi di kelas kami. (Panjang badan) Kita tidak boleh memiliki sikap "tinggi" hati apa pun alasannya. (Sombong)
