How can we identify weather the information is a fact or a fake? We can identify weather the information is a fact or fake by determining the truthfulness and accuracy of information .

“Not everything we see or read on social media is true and accurate.” Factual information is a must !

FAKE NEWS Fake news are those stories that are simply false. The information is fabricated, with no verifiable facts, sources or quotes.

HOW TO SPOT FAKE NEWS? 1. Consider the source We need to check the website or the URL 2. Read beyond the headline . Let us avoid clickbait . These are the sensationalized or misleading headlines. Ex. A media piece may report on a political figure in a biased way or present one side of an issue while deriding another. It may include sensational aspects such as zealots, doomsayers and/or junk science . When you read some headlines, always check the grammar, capitalization, and punctuation .

HOW TO SPOT FAKE NEWS? 3 . Check with experts . See if the same information appears in other sources. Cross-check . We need to verify, compare or double check the information from other sources. Also known as Fact check. Examples: -Vera Files Fact Check -FactCheck.org Google (has its own fact-check feature to identify fake news.

T wo kinds of false information: Misinformation is a false information that is shared because it is believed to be real. D isinformation is false information that is spread even though it is known to be false.

TO AVOID MISINFORMATION & DISINFORMATION W e should know the purpose and objectivity of the information. Purpose and objectivity means being unbiased in presenting the information.
