INTRODUCTION NGOs can collaborate with other organizations and individuals to promote environmental protection. NGOs can work with local communities to promote sustainable practices and rise awareness about environmental issues. NGOs can also partner with businesses and governments to implement sustainable development initiatives.

ROLE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN ENVIRONMENT Information technology has tremendous potential in the field of environment education and health as in any other field like business, economics , politics or culture. Development of internet facilities, geographic information system (GIS) and information through satellites has generated a wealth of up-to date information on various aspects of environment.

DATABASE ON ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEM Database is the collection of interrelated data on various subjects. It is usually in computerized form and can be retrieved whenever required. In the computer the information of database and can be very quickly retrieved. The comprehensive database etc. database is also available for diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria, fluorosis etc.

National management information system ( nmis ) : NMIS of the department of science and technology has compiled a database on research and development projects along with information about research scientists and personal involved. Environmental information system (EIS): The ministry of environment and forests, Government of India has created an information system called environmental information system (ENVIS). With its headquarters in Delhi, it functions in 25 different centers all over the country. Remote sensing: Satellite imageries provide us actual information about various physical and biological resources and also to some extent about their state of degradation in the digital form through remote sensing. We are able to gather digital information on environment aspects like water logging, desertification, deforestation, river and canal network, mineral and energy reserves and so on.

Geographical information system (GIS): GIS has proved to be a very effective tool in environmental management. GIS is a technique of superimposing various thematic maps using digital data on a large number of inter-related or inter dependent aspects. Several useful soft-wares have been developed for working in the field of GIS. The World Wide Web (WWW): With resources material on every aspect, class-room activities and digital fields of photos, power-point lecture presentations, animations, web-exercises and quiz has proved to be extremely useful both of the students and the teachers of environmental studies.

The role of online learning centre website has the following features: Student friendly features: These include practice quiz, how to study tips, hyperlinks on every topics with detailed information, web exercises, case studies, environmental maps, key-terms, career information current articles and interactive encyclopedia and how to contact your elected officials. Teacher friendly features: These include in addition to above supplement resources charts, additional case studies, answers to web exercises, solutions to critical thinking, questions, editing facility to add or delete questions and create multiple version of same test etc. Information technology is expending rapidly with increasing applications and new avenues are being opened with effective role in education, management and planning in the field of environment.

Role of mass media for environmental awareness: Provides geographical knowledge- newspapers, radio, television and even the internet are providing a comprehensive understanding of geographical knowledge to people. What is happening in the world today, with place has been ignored and the relevant representations made through different forms of media produces deep effects on the people. Media can report and educate people about certain forces and activities that adversely affect our environment. Conservation of natural resources our primary target is not only controlling the wastage of various sources of energy like oil, gas, coal etc. Dissemination of environmental information- electronic media and print media are a major medium of spreading information about environment among the populations.

Vocational information media also helps in providing vocational and professional information to a larger group of the community. Spreading awareness and civic responsibility media create awareness among people and enlighten them about different problems of society.

Print media In addition to newspapers and magazines, print media also includes books, brochures and other forms of printed material. These media forms are used for various purposes such as educating informing and entertaining. They have been used to share knowledge, spread ideas and shape how we think about the world. Media has been considered as fourth pillar of democracy, where every one has right to expression. Environment eco- harmony by reducing pollution, plastic waste and emission of CO2 etc. In this direction UN has clearly pointed at media in spreading awareness about the need of sustainable development, presentation of forests and eco-system.

Electronic media: Role of electronic media specifically television, in promoting environmental awareness, and political consciousness with a focus on contributing to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Environmental reporting among five prominent news channels: DD News, CNN-News 18, NDTV 24x7, Times Now and Republic TV.

Social media: Social media has become a part and parcel of present day lifestyle. With the advancement in industrialization, science, technology and globalization various environmental issues are looking place locally and globally. This social media can be utilized as a tool to promote awareness regarding various current environmental issues in a much faster way and to a large mass with in a very short span of time. The importance of environmental education in determining the value of social media can be done through interaction between environmental education and students or common people. People are using social media nowadays to support environmental campaigns and to connect people locally and globally on minor to major environmental issues. It also provides ordinary people with the ability to track the quality of the air, water, climate around them and then share this data with others.
