ENVIRONMENT AND ITS COMPONENTS

Natural environment

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Natural Resources

Inexhaustible Resources These resources which are Unlimited and not to be exhausted by continued use. Eg . Air, Sun light, water, etc., Exhaustible Resources These resources on continued use, slowly deplete and finally get dried up fully. Eg . Coal, Petroleum, metals and minerals

Renewable Resources The resources which can be replaced after over period Eg . Water, Wood, soil fertility, forest, wild animals * They get regenerated in nature.

Non-Renewable Resources The resources which can not be replaced after being used There is no chance for the replacement / long period to replace. Eg . Coal, Oil, Natural gas, ores of minerals

Reusable Resources This kind of resources are deposits and to be exhausted on continued use Yet they can be used over and over again Eg . Metals like Gold, Silver, Iron, Copper

Non-reusable Resources This kind of resources not only deplete on continued use And they can not be used repeatedly. Eg . Metallic minerals, like sand, stones (Marble, granite) etc.,

Kinds of Natural Resources Land Resources Forest Resources Water Resources Mineral Resources Food Resources Energy Resources

Land Resources Out of 510 million sq.km. of the world total area, land accounts for 29% (169 million sq.km) Mountain, hills, plateaus, plains and valleys Soil is very important components of structure, texture, moisture, etc., Medium for food, vegetation and natural resources.

Factors Affecting Land Resource Soil Erosion Land Slides Desertification

Soil Erosion Drifting of the top layer of the soil. Loss of Vegetation (Plants / Trees) Reasons for soil erosion: i ) Destruction of forest ii) Mining operations iii) Development activities like Construction of building, dam, bridges, industries, etc.,

Effect of Soil Erosion Floods Ardiation (drought) Depletion of nutrients in soil rendering it infertile Disastrous effect on micro-organism Loss of under ground water Alkalinity and seepage increase in the plains
