Mermaid Stereotypes
Many people believe mermaids and other sea creatures are mythological, because of folklore
stereotypes, rare sightings, and contrived evidence. From 586 A.D. to the twentieth century,
people believe that these magical creatures thrive in the deepest parts of the ocean. There are
many supposed sightings of mermaids, some believe these creatures can bring fortune or death;
through numerous sightings these stories are very similar. Some say they saw women with
beauty like no other, her hair the color of black, and her torso just like a women, while from her
waist down was the bottom half of a porpoise, or a fish. These women were either luring men with
their tempted voice to the bottom of the ocean where they would drown or sometimes even causing

With rare sightings, and contrived evidence many people don t know the origin of these stories,
and many don t bother trying to figure it out. However, storytellers had a tendency to tell the
people what they wanted to hear. So they were quite happy to bend the truth to please their
audience if, for example, they thought the audience would pay more for a different ending! The
truth was sometimes the least important thing. (Myths and Legends) This proves that money and
wealth were and are, in today s world, more important than the truth and reality of stories. People
used to tell stories, because they saw and witnessed what happened, but over time people have
initiated how we tell things: switching out information to make the story better and less genuine.
Over decade and centuries, people have contrived evidence to prove the authenticity of mermaids
and other mythological creatures; and decade after decade, people have been caught for forgery
and artificial evidence. Therefore, many people only know what people tell them, but in order to
figure something out, sometimes all we need is our own

Summary Of Child Pornography
Summary of Child Pornography, the Internet and Juvenile Suspects This research article by
Leukfeldt, Jansen, and Stol focuses on adolescents who engage in child pornography. As soon as a
young person takes sexualized pictures or videos of themselves and/or others and then post them
on the internet it must be dealt with through the police. They find it hard to determine as who is
the offender and who is the victim since majority of all youths will produce and distribute a photo
at some point in their adolescents, which can be defined as child pornography. There are many
problems that arise from adolescents who engage in sharing sexualized photos online, such as if
they are in a relationship does it make it any different and should it be ignored or not?
Summary of Data Based Profiling of Internet Child Pornography Offenders In this article produced
by Vasudevan, Ross, Eccleston, and Pradhan they talk about how child pornography has become an
increasing issue in the world for children today. This study focuses on demographic and offending
characteristics of two different groups, which are the non contact and the contact internet sex
offenders. They explore whether the offenders had any prior convictions of criminal history either
non sexual or sexual. They discovered differences between non contact and contact offenders in
their education level, career, criminal history and childhood background.

Tips For Stretching It Budgets
Tips for Stretching IT Budgets
In today s multifaceted business environment, technological needs are constantly changing. In fact,
now days IT has became a critical initiative for success. With the widespread use of IT,
organizations face the challenge of increasing competition, expanding markets, and rising customer
expectations. This increases the pressure on organizations to implement various financial budgeting
strategies that could potentially lower the cost. Therefore, a concept that recently has gain
momentum, and is becoming a popular practice in most organizations is IT budgeting. According to
Baker (2009) the six strategies that are effective in controlling IT budgets are: repurposing the
already implemented software, efficiently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, which means to expand the use of the same software towards different
functionalities, for instance utilizing the Numara FoorPrints software from IT services to HR
department (Baker, 2009).
For an effective IT budgeting, IT leaders need to execute viable decision making ideas that can
result into monetary savings in the long run (Heier et al., 2008). Similarly, repurposing of the
software positively effects the organization, by saving an amount that would have been spent on a
new software purchase, and creating some extra budget that could be invested towards other
strategic investments or initiatives (Heier et al., 2008). In terms of the operations cost, even
though the repurpose might slightly increase its maintenance cost if the software has already been
used for many years, but still by evaluating the whole operational budget for two different
functions it still is a cost effective strategy (Heier et al., 2008). Additionally, it serves as a valuable
asset to the organization, in terms of saving both time and money of their IT staff, as they no longer
are learning totally new software.
On the downside, there might be certain hidden operational costs involved that might require more
maintenance, for instance the software can have limited memory or processing capacity, so in such
a case it might actually cost more to repurposing the same software (Heier et al., 2008).

Fair Credit Reporting Act And Credit History
Fair Credit Reporting Act/Credit History
The Fair Credit Reporting Act was established in 1970. This act is in accordance on how a credit
agency reports credit information. The Fair Credit Reporting Act serves to protect the privacy and
integrity of clients. It allows individuals to adjust any inaccurate information in a credit report and
provides a solution if a credit agency violates your rights. According to the Privacy Rights
Clearinghouse (2014), anyone with a legitimate business need can gain access to your credit history.
(2014). The businesses that have access to your credit report include, landlords, insurance
companies, employers, Government agencies, child support agencies. Having a credit report on file

This information helps determine if the tenant is likely to pay their bills on time. Finding a job
is an advantage to having a good credit record. Employers have the option to look at an applicant
s credit history to decide whether or not that person is reliable. If an employment agency is
checking a credit report they usually check it for fraudulent activity. Other company s check for
derogatory information. If those types of things are found then the applicant may have some
explaining to do. Not every job looks at credit history. However, some jobs do such as,
accounting, finance, or a high ranking position in a company. A person with good credit history
shows if this person is responsible and if that person is able to be trusted with their finances. On
the other hand, there are certain drawbacks of having a credit record on file. Some offenses to a
credit record are minor and others are major. Bankruptcy is a case where a consumer is unable to
pay outstanding debts. According to Investopedia (2001), Upon the successful completion of
bankruptcy proceedings, the debtor is relieved of the debt obligations incurred prior to filing for
bankruptcy (2001). After the proceedings the individual is given another chance to pay off the
debt. Bankruptcy is on file for ten years. During this time, the person or business responsible may
struggle with the loss of property. Moreover, other losses may persist that include, loss of income,

Hieroglyphics And Mayans Similarities
Imagine a world without writing. This is an almost impossible task because our world is completely
inundated with writing. How would we keep track of commerce or maintain a record of history? It
is interesting to me that humans have designed ways in which to communicate to each other using
symbols carved into stone. This technology has not only been shaped by the people using them, the
hieroglyphics have also directly influence the societies that used them. Hieroglyphics are such an
important invented technology, because it has been vital in helping to shape and record the culture
of two populations living at different times and across the world: the ancient Egyptians, and the
ancient Mayans. In this paper, I will discuss the intriguing similarities... Show more content on

I will then fast forward the clock to discuss how Mayan hieroglyphs may have developed, as well
as examine homophony in Mayan script. There always seems to be some conspiracy of aliens and
the similarities of Mayan and Egyptian cultures. There are some intriguing similarities between the
two cultures, such as the use of pyramids and religion, but not at all due to extra terrestrial help.
Cynthia Calhoun (2017) explains the interesting similarities between the two cultures in her article
titled, Egyptian and Mayan Similarities Ginseng, Religion, and Hieroglyphics. Calhoun (2017)
believes that there is perhaps a global yin and yang at work here. By this, she is stating that there
are complimentary features that separate cultures have developed in order to solve the same,

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Outsourcing Essay
In the past decade the topic of outsourcing has become a heavily debated subject on if it is
ethically correct to outsourcing jobs to foreign countries. Outsourcing has become more and more
an option for many companies and not just an economic fad. The decision to outsource is a
difficult one for any company to make because there are many advantages and disadvantages to
consider. The decision to outsource affects many people, communities, and industries so if a
corporationdecides to outsource they must consider how it will affect human dignity, the common
good of the economy, and subsidiary.
A common definition of outsourcing is the takes part of their business and give it to another
company to complete. The main industries that take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the opponents of outsourcing these statistics correctly state why outsourcing is a negative
solution to cost cutting and affects the dignity of the people who used to work these jobs. To
the people who have lost their jobs their dignity has been partially lost because they are now with
out a job that they have worked for most of their lives and now they can t provide for themselves
and their dependents. Also for the companies that have outsourced these jobs they don t provide
adequate services for their employees who s jobs are being outsourced. To the companies that
outsource should help their former employees find other jobs. This would be beneficial to the
worker and industry because the worker would loose a means of income and the industry would
regain workers. On the other side the supporters of outsourcing say that it helps the dignity of
workers who receive the jobs from the American corporations. An example of how outsourcing
helps dignity is if you have an industry like web design and you don t get a job over a cheaper
outsourced company you will have the extra motivation to improve your business or product
(Business, ethics, morality).
By outsourcing your need to have a web site to another country you cut costs, provide work for
other who otherwise would never have got the chance to make the web site and you motivate other

Core Values Of Equality And Social Justice In American...
The core values of equality and social justice in American society have changed significantly over
the last decades. The once dignified country that upholds both its traditional core values are now
eroding through the systemic unjust laws, which favors the affluent ones. In consequence, there is
an uneven distribution of power and wealth in the United States, where some become extremely
powerful and rich, while the others become miserably poor and vulnerable. This serious
ramification can be seen in the widespread concerns among the Wall Street executives and the
middle lower class people. According to The Divide by Matt Taibbi and the documentary Inside
Job, white collar Wall Street offenders are more likely to get away with their crimes even though
they perpetrate profitable felony such as corporate fraud, whilst the blue collar offenders get... Show

Slowly but steadily, this then widen the current divide in the American society in which the
wealthy get more privileges despite the crimes they committed; and the impecunious get more
oppressed, furthering the gap between the rich and the poor. Under prosecution of white collar
criminals and over prosecution of street criminals are, therefore, degrading the American core
values of equality and social justice in addition to the elite level crime offenders being treated and
seen as more socially acceptable than the low level crime offenders. White collar crimes possessed
future horrific harms and consequences to our nation, especially in the financial spectrum; yet, the
society s main concerns laid on street crimes because of their physical and immediate effects. It is
important to note, however, that no crime is better than the other. Even though the impact of white

The Movie The Help
The film, The Help was a great movie but it was definitely an eye opener for me because as we
research different eras we find that circumstances for Black women were always at the hands of
someone else. Black women were referred to as Negros in this era and sometimes were called
more derogatory names, that we need not mention. Blacks were not allowed to drink cokes, and
were punished if they were caught drinking it. Unfortunately, Black women were mothers to their
own children and they had to be mothers to the white children that they cared for. Black women
had to leave their children with someone else while they cared for the white children. The
mothers of those children were so busy doing book clubs, town meeting etc. that they didn t have
time to take care of their own children. When the children were in need of attention, most times it
was the maid that coddled the children and make sure that they were taken care of. In the movie
the white children depended on the maid more than their own parents. The parents only picked the
children up once a day to spend time with them or to even talk to them. Even the fathers didn t
have time for the children and only saw them in passing as they were walking out the door. Black
women potty trained the children that they cared for while the mothers carried on with their daily
tasks. Even though Black women were treated unfairly, the white women often looked up to them
and may have even asked for help with their

Jeffrey Macdonald Murder Case
Jeffrey Robert MacDonald was a U.S. Army officer and a medical doctor who was convicted in
1979 of murdering his pregnant wife and two daughters in February 1970. The reason why I
chose this case is because this murder case is said to be one of America s most enduring murder
mysteries and the main topic of a best selling book. Not only this, but I also chose this case
because it took about 9 years for Macdonald to be finally convicted and the U.S army got involved
and made their own investigation because they didn t believe his story. This meant that this case
had many twists and turns, making it a mysterious case that s very intriguing and wanting to know
more about.
The Fort Bragg police arrive at the MacDonald resident in response to an emergency call from
Jeffrey MacDonald in the morning of February 17, 1970 at 3;42am. What they find is insanity and
murder...Colette MacDonald, Kimberley MacDonald, and Kristen MacDonald are all murdered
in their bedrooms. The scene described by first responders was horrific . Since that day in
February, MacDonald has worn two public faces, one of evil and one of injustice.
To begin with, at the murder scene Colette MacDonald is found in the master bedroom and on the
headboard of the bed is the word PIG written with her own blood. Her body was violently stabbed

Nut Island Effect
#1. Do the people at Nut Island represent a cohesive team? The team from Nut Island had the
potential to accomplish great things. They were a very cohesive team. Cohesiveness relates to the
degree to which members are attracted to and motivated to remain part of that team. A cohesive
group member values his or her membership and strives to maintain a positive relationship within
the group. Every person working at Nut Island wanted to be there and would not let anything get
in the way of their team. When looking at only the cohesiveness of a team, Nut Island would be a
good example. They worked together and enjoyed what they did at the sewageplant. Employees

(b.)The employees at Nut Island formed a very cohesive group, but their cohesiveness
contributed to their problems. They worked together and were able to all conform to a set of
norms. This group though was following the wrong set of norms. A highly cohesive group
following a negative set of performance norms has the least amount of success. They are working
together but for the wrong cause. The Nut Island team began following the wrong set of norms
when they request for funds for maintenance on equipment was denied. They were told to get rid
of the dandelions. He was more worried about the outside appearance than the inner workings of the
plant and what the employees had to deal with. The team began to feel isolated and was not able to
trust others outside of their group. Later on the plant s four engines shut down. Management had
refused to give them money to maintain the engines, and they were waiting for something to go
wrong. This incident united the team even more around a common adversary В – management.
Their enemy should not have been people within their own company. The team lost sight of the
goal they were supposed to perform and focused on doing everything themselves.

Labeling And The Rights Of All Students
Labeling and the rights of all students to access education Rights baseds and needs based
Selecting a school for your child can be based on various reasons depending on what you are
looking for whether it is scholarships they offer, location even public perception (Hobsons,
2015). Ideally every parent wants the utter most best for their child. Unfortunately some parents
get lost and focus mainly towards a specific achievement or offer which may not always be
within the best interest of the child. For example Bryson goes to South High School as they
supply the best football opportunities. While he is doing well in physical education in class
work is suffering, falling behind as they don t offer Bryson the one on one attention he needs to
succeed. Labeling is a process of creating descriptors to identify persons who differ from the
norm (White, 2014). Labeling is required to be included in special education (Government,
2005). Under current law, to receive special education services, a child must be identified as
having a disability and, in most cases, must be further classified into one of that state s categories,
such as mental retardation or learning disabilities (Heward, 2010). Some parents struggle with the
idea of placing their beloved child in a special school unwilling to accept the Label (Heward,
2010). This Label can stop parents from allowing their child to receive the best possible treatment
in developing their Childs knowledge and physical/personal

What Are The Differences Between Formality And Informality
Communication rule is governed through social settings, for appropriate responses to
communication stimuli. An example in the United States would be a student in class raising his/her
hand to ask a teacher a question. In the classroom setting, it s rude to just blurt out a question
without being called upon. 2.What are the differences between rules and norms? Rules are expected
or intended behaviors and their outcomes with mutual expectations. There are no moral or ethical
connotations. Whereas norms are socially shared guidelines for expected and accepted behaviors.
3.How do cultures differ in formality and informality give examples. Cultures can have views
regarding events and people that range from extremely informal to very formal. In the U.S. people
tend to treat others with informality and directness. They avoid the use of formal codes of conduct,
titles, honorifics, and ritualistic manners in their interactions with others. On the other hand, there
are many cultures that place a high value on formality. In Egypt, Turkey, Japan, for instance, the
student teacher relationship is very formal. In these countries when the teacher enters the room,
students will assume a subordinate attitude and in some cases may even stand and bow. Many
Americans will call others by their first name, but in other countries such as Germany, calling others
by their first name makes them uncomfortable. 4.Give four examples of different practices in the
business setting that reflect

The Tale Of Genji By Murasaki Shikibu
Literature is a form of communication that demonstrates ideas. Literature can be anything that is
written such as, poetry, stories, letters...etc. Communities around the world practice different
traditions and the people within those communities live a particular lifestyle that depends on their
social habits, religion, and their native language For example, Japan is notorious for its
unprecedented culture and traditions that have been conserved by the Japanese people for
thousands of years. Japanese natives execute these particular attributes and values that have evolved
from classical literature. One aspect that has had great impact and influence on Japanese customs
and ideals is Literature.
Japanese literature represents many cultures and traditions that have been cultivated in Japan. For
example, the Tale of Genji was written early in the eleventh century by Murasaki Shikibu and is
considered the world s first novel. The Tale of Genji was an important book at the time because it
was the first novel ever written and was a prominent tale among the Heian court. The novel
illustrates the rise of Prince Genji , as the son of a minor consort of the emperor, to a higher
stature in society. The Tale of Genji symbolized the preeminent values and moral principles that
society admired and honored during the Heian Period. Life during the Heian Period was nothing
short of remarkable. Society accepted and embraced certain regimes that were established and

Disagreement Vs Disagreement
James Madison warned the young American nation of factions at its conception, describing groups
of individuals perpetually discontent with the status quo. Such groups would find compromise
impossible, isolating themselves in the vast, untamed wilderness of the young country. Madison s
prognosis, however, offered the slim positive that the nation was large enough to contain the
factions without conflict because so long as they remained in the minority, they posed no threat in
a democracy. However, Daniel J. Boorstin s evaluation of the nation s health leans towards illness,
as he correctly argues that while disagreement is the lifeblood of a democracy, dissension is its
cancer. Democracy functions through disagreeing opinions coalescing to... Show more content on

For instance, the Ku Klux Klan has made several resurgences throughout American history, each
time more radical than the last. Today, the group has dwindled to a small percentage of nativist,
racist individuals who are unable to put aside their irrational beliefs and instead be productive
members of society. Thankfully, a minuscule minority of the nation s citizens share their
perspective, so they remain the prototype of the Madisonian faction, irreconcilably radical but
insignificant. However, political extremism founded on dissension can reach terrifying popularity.
ISIS and ISIL preach a doctrine of disposing of individuals who disagree with their radical
interpretation of the Quran, and the ferocity of this isolationist ideology has destroyed local
governments in Syria In fact, the organization has indirectly attacked the democratic governments
throughout the world. By organizing pointed attacks like the one in Paris, they are diminishing
citizens senses of security, weakening the power of their governments. Dissension ravages the
online universe, as well. On Tumblr, entire blogs are devoted to ostracizing groups of people for
their opinions, while Twitter wars reduce productivity until it is nonexistent. Though both forms of
social media hold amazing potential for widespread cooperation towards acquiring social change,
dissenting opinions make it difficult

Education From Rabelais Perspective
Education from Rabelais Perspective
The Renaissance altered centuries of thought in Europe. One figured who contributed to
revolutionizing though was the author Francois Rabelais who wrote comedic critiques of his world.
In his stories of Gargantua and Pantagruel the author critiques many aspects of sixteenth century
life especially the education system. He examines previous educational attitudes, as well as those
during his time. As a humanist thinker, Rabelais values education and reform. The author was
extremely familiar with the university system in France during the Renaissance because he himself
studied in these places. Francois Rabelais emphasizes that education has progressed since the
Middle Ages, but he also affirms problems still persist during the Renaissance period.
Rabelais critiques medieval education to demonstrate the flawed system prior to the Renaissance.
Rabelais finds issue with traditional scholastic debates pro et contra due to their loose connection
to seeking truth (M.A. Screech 30). He communicates his personal distress through Pantagruel s
rants about prior scholars glossing worthwhile texts (Rabelais 33). Glossing, or commentary by
scholars, was a popular scholastic pursuit before the Renaissance. Rabelais found it to detract from
the texts overall value. The author also uses Gargantua, Pantagruel s father, who lived during the
prior period to emphasize the many additional specific failures of medieval education. He writes

Louis the Pious, the Holy Roman Empirewas divided amongst Louis three sons; Lothair I, Louis

France and the Carolingian Renaissance. On the death of Louis, a civil war broke out between his

The Banning Of Music In The 1960 s
Music has the power to make people have powerful emotions. Sometimes music s power to make
people feel powerful emotions scare them who are afraid to feel the emotions it brings. Banning
music would set a very menacing example for the censorship of other things such as books, movies,
and tv shows. Factors of musiccensorshipcould be, racial motivations, generational value gaps, and
fear. People should know that those aren t the only things that could cause music censorship though.
Mostly in the 1950 s and 1960 s when a new genre of music was made is when music censorship
became a problem. Rhythm and Blues was the new genre and included freely expressed sexual

Generational value gaps play a big role here too. The older generations try and use their ability to
block or censor the music of this generation because the newer music does not display the morals
of the old. R B music was very different for the time it was made in. for in that time the Great
Depression had just started, we fought in War World II, and started the production that started the
economic defiance in the United States. The Rolling Stones music was banned from all Radio
Stations because of sexual references in their songs. The value gap started when heavy metal and
rap gorups started up and caused authorities to get more involved. During a PTA meeting in
Cinncinati, Ohio, they brought up the topic of government music censorship. The National
Coalation on TV, that looked out for the level of violence in music and music videos on TV, asked
the federal government put rock music on television. The demand did not get acted upon, but it
did show that some people in the world wanted music censorship and were turning to the
government to help. That next year the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) made the
government and music industries to rate all the songs that would be playing publicly. The
generation value gaps are still here today, but today it is more focused on rapper and gangster
music and sexually explicit songs in hip hop. Each music censorship case brought up is usually with

`` Xenophon s Goals Are Self Advertisedly Circumscribed
Introduction Xenophon s goals are self advertisedly circumscribed. His aim is not to give a full
account of Socrates trial or even a version of his entire speech of defense.
***Xenophon s general intent was to defend Socrates by portraying him as encouraging young
men to become like Xenophon himself free from subjection to their own desires or the authority of

The Tell-Tale Heart, A Rose For Emily, And The Lottery
Horror is a strong feeling of fear, disgust, or shock. Many different examples of horror stories
exist; horror stories are unique in their own way, and very few are similar. It is in many stories,
movies, and even in real life. For example, movie theaters always have a horror film showing,
which shows that they are very common and enjoyed thoroughly by people young and old. Many
short stories include horror, as well, including The Tell Tale Heart, A Rose for Emily, and The
Lottery. Horror is developed in the stories listed, and they are extremely unique in their own ways.

The Smoke Signals By Chris Eyre
Smoke Signals, released in 1998, is a classic film that provides insight to the lives of Native
Americans living on reservations. There are very few films that attempt to portray Native
Americans at all, yet alone in a respectful manner. The characters are all played by genuine
Native American actors including: Adam Beach, Evan Adams, Irene Bedard, Gary Farmer, and
Tantoo Cardinal. Additionally, it is directed by Chris Eyre, another Native American. This film
tries to overcome stereotypes of Native Americans that are prevalent in society, and does so in a
humorous way. Smoke Signals takes the viewer along on a journey with the two main
characters, Victor and Thomas. They leave their reservation in Idaho to travel to Arizona in
order to collect Victor s father s ashes. This film is a classic because of it s timeless theme:
forgiveness. Smoke Signals portrays the theme of forgiveness by featuring Victor, a character
struggling to forgive his late father for being an alcoholic and leaving him as a child; Victor takes
Thomas along on a trek to Arizona to retrieve Victor s father s ashes. Smoke Signals is one of the
few films that accurately depicts Native American life by genuine Native American actors. This can
be attributed to the fact that it is produced by Native Americans. The 1990s were a time of
attempted political reform between the United States government and the reservation inhabitants. A

Comparing Madagascar And Madagascar, Malawi And Malawi
Madagascar and Malawi are two countries in Africa that both have control and protection over their
natural resources and also their property rights. Each country has natural resources and the two
countries listed above share a few of the same ones. The government has organizations in both
Madagascar and Malawi that protect and monitor the natural resources that are in their countries.
Something unique that separates Madagascar from Malawi is that Madagascar also relies heavily
on their community to help preserve their resources and keep them kept well. The propertyrights in
both of the above countries are similar in the sense that the government makes the laws and they
are to be followed. There can be many changes in laws and regulations when new bills are passed
or a new leader is elected. Madagascar and Malawi are both countries in Africawith very similar
ways of control over their natural resources and property rights. After lots of research
Madagascar s stance on the control of natural resources are not protected by just a group of
people but instead they rely on the whole community. Malawi has a somewhat similar take on their
control because they use an organization to monitor their resources. Without any control or
protection over them people will destroy them and they will no longer be special to that country.

However, murder is murder whether committed by the villain skulking in the dark or by
uniformed men stepping to the strains of martial music. Murder is murder, and somebody must
answer. Somebody must explain the streams of blood that flowed in the Indian country in the
summer of 1838. Somebody must explain the 4000 silent graves that mark the trail of the
Cherokees to their exile (Charles River Editors). On the Trail of Tears, many murders were
carried out. Although these murders may not have been perpetrated by one person directly, the
bodies of the trials were devastating. The Trail of Tears was a series of Indian removal over eight

The Trail of Tears was a sequence of forced tribal removals from certain lands to another. The
impact that this had on American society in the nineteenth century is little due to the fact that
most of the country was white whom had more privilege and were becoming big landowners or
plantation owners. The relocations were enforced and the Indians were required to move as a
result of their want to remain as a nation. To these tribes, family and relation was everything, so
they would rather be thrown off land than become split up. Today, the Trail of Tears is important
because of the more frequent use of freedom of speech and the fights for equality from the United
States citizens. It is important to address these points in history to use as an example of what we,
as a country, should avoid. A trail of tears is still happening, due to the forced deportation of

The Models Have Different Approaches Towards The Concept...
Nursing Both models have different approaches towards the concept of nursing. Leininger
presented nursing as activities directed toward assisting, enabling, and supporting with the cultural
beliefs and values of the recipient of care (Masters, 2014, p. 69). Nursing is a general profession
which includes culturally congruent care; nurses provide care for members of diverse cultures.
According to JaroЕ ЎovГЎ (2014), nursing is presented by three types of activities which are
culturally congruent with the needs and values of clients (p. 49). However, Roy defines nursing as
using the four adaptive modes, promote adaptation for individuals and groups, thus contributing to
health, quality of life, and dying with dignity (McEwen Wills, 2014, p. 179). JaroЕ ЎovГЎ, (2014)
explained that nursing focuses on adaptive abilities of individual, families, and communities. By
manipulating focal and contextual stimuli and decreasing the influence of residual stimuli, nursing
strives to reduce ineffective responses and promote adaptation of individual in health and illness (p.
54). The metaparadigm concepts are well defined in these two models. However, there are some
similarities and differences found between the two models. The relationship among the concepts is
evident and is related to one another, and these are consistent with the model s scientific
assumptions. However, in philosophical assumptions, the definition and relationship of the
concepts are not clearly consistent.

What Is The Main Idea Of Sucker By Carson Mcculler
I believe Sucker is a living, breathing person. In the story, Carson McCullers supplied hints that
indicate Sucker is real. If he was imaginary, McCullers would have incstead hinted that he is
imaginary. In short stories, every detail the author includes is there for a reason . McCullers
wrote about Sucker : there was a long cut on his cheek , he was always hanging around , and To
me and my kid sisters he was like our brother. These phrases are all ones you would use to
describe a living, breathing person. Had McCullers constructed Sucker to be imaginary, she would

The main idea of Sucker is, as Pete said, If a person admires you a lot you despise him and don t
care and it is the person who doesn t notice you that you are apt to admire. Pete could have only
learned this if he experienced such a situation that was out of his control. In other words, the
people in this situation with Pete (i.e. Sucker and Maybelle) could not have been imaginary
because Pete would be in control of the situation and, as many people with imaginary friends do,
turn the situation into their favor. The broken relationship between Pete and Sucker was definetly
not in Pete s favor and neither was Pete able to repair it. In addition, if Sucker was imaginary,
McCullers would have included this fact in the main idea of the story, which might then be, briefly
: fantasizing about the impossibly perfect relationship you want will make you lose the wonderful
relationship you already have, but don t realize you have. However, as a short story McCullers only
had enough space in the story to elaborate on the main idea Pete learned, which is quoted earlier
in this paragraph. Thus, Sucker is living. In conclusion, I believe Sucker to be a real, living and
breathing person. McCullers only hinted in the story that Sucker is real, not imaginary. Also, Pete
described experiencing very intense sensory related and emotional feelings regarding Sucker,
which could only be possible if Sucker is real. Lastly, the main idea of Carson McCullers short story

Although, yellow journalism became the term for this practice of sensationalism and sometimes

The Role Of Traditional Household Gender Roles
Gender relations are not confined to the domestic arena although households constitute an important
institutional site on which gender relations are played out but are made, remade and contested in a
range of institutional arenas (Changing Gender Relations In The Household). In parallel to this
statement, women and men have always had their own perceive norm within the household. Women
are traditionally homemakers and men assume the sole status of breadwinner. However, in modern
day society men are becoming more open to the idea of genderequality in regards to familyroles.
Mothers and society are socializing individuals with this norm. Currently, there is a gradual
transition from a male dominant society to gender equality. This paper will look at the impact of
traditional household gender roles by analyzing the following questions:
1.Why is there a gender shift in household gender roles?
2.What is the impact of balancing work and a family?
3.What are the benefits for the family?
4.Is gender equality within a family positively affecting society?
By understanding how this change has come about, predictions can be made to determine how this
will impact the future, to see if this will change situations outside of the home that are gender
sensitive, and to see if this will give a people a broader perspective to work with.
Why is there a gender shift in household gender roles?
Influenced by the ever changing society, the household gender roles are transforming. Due an

The Indigenous People of Alaska
Alaska is different. When compared to the contiguous United States of America the differences are
pronounced and occur in almost all aspects of life. The differences even extend to the original
inhabitants, to the way they survived, treaties with the United States government, current way of
life, and education. An overview of the historical approach to education as well as the current
changes will hopefully provide insight into what works and what does not work in educational
settings in rural Alaska. Alaska is large. With a land mass of one third the side of the rest of the
United Statesit dwarfs Texas, the second largest state, by over two and half times. The twenty six
smallest states combined are still smaller than Alaska. Alaska s coastline is over 33,000 miles,
many times longer than the coastline of the remaining United States. Alaska is the most northern,
western and eastern state. It is filled with natural resources. People around the world identify
Alaska with the midnight sun, oil fields, Denali, Salmon and the mighty Yukon. Yet with plenty
of resources and all of that room, in 2000, the population of Alaska was only 710,321 (Alaska,
2014). Combined with Alaska s size this results in a population density of 1.2 persons per square

Listeria monocytogenes Essay
Listeria monocytogenes
Introduction
Listeria monocytogenes, a motile, gram positive rod, is an opportunistic food borne pathogen
capable of causing listeriosis in humans. Listeriosis includes manifestations of septicemia,
meningitis, pneumonia, and encephalitis. L. monocytogenes is also implicated in miscarriages,
stillbirth, and premature birth for pregnant women. L. monocytogenes is a tough bacterium resistant
to freezing, drying, and heat; most strains have been shown to be pathogenic. It is hypothesized that

Pathogenic L. monocytogenes go through an intracellular life cycle involving early escape from
the phagocytic vacuole, rapid intracytoplasmic multiplication, bacterially induced actin based
motility, and direct spread to neighboring cells, in which they reinitiate the cycle. The bacterium
is first phagocytosed by these cells and secretes a pore forming toxin called listeriolysin, which
allows the bacterium to escape from the phagosome. All virulent strains of L. monocytogenes
synthesize and secrete listeriolysin. Phospholipase A and B are other virulence factors that
facilitate escape of L. monocytogenes from the phagosome. Once out of the phagosome L.
monocytogenes is capable of rapid division in the cytoplasm, evading the immune response and
moving throughout the cytoplasm from cell to cell. L. monocytogenes is well known for its
ability to propel itself like a rocket through the cell cytoplasm. This is the result of the bacterium s
ability to polymerize actin filaments at its tail end. Actin is arranged in subunits to form
microfilaments that are capable of directing cell movement. L. monocytogenes accomplishes cell
motility through a virulence factor called ActA that takes advantage of normal actin
polymerization going on in the cell. The ActA protein shares sequence homology with a protein
called WASP that is found in virtually all eukaryotic cells. WASP is responsible for recognizing and

Mary Dorcey Come Quietly Essay
3.2. Mary Dorcey s Come Quietly or the Neighbours Will Hear
Another poem which manifests against the Catholic view of women is the Mary Dorcey s
Come Quietly or the Neighbours Will Hear in which the lesbian love is juxtaposed with the
deliberately silenced reality of the sexual assaults against women (Fogarty 93 94). Lesbian
sexuality was a disorder according to the 1992 Catholic Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith
(Moane 442) and although they were not criminalized, it was definitely not a sign of acceptance,
of course, but a negation of women s agency, . . . effectively restricting women s behaviour and
desire (Weekes 123). Although at first sight, the Virgin Mary does not fit into this scenario, the
poem has multiple layers and as Michaele Schrage FrГ јh writes:

Black Women And The Black Men
Black women have a long feminist tradition dating back to 19th century activists such as Maria W.
Stewart and Sojourner Truth, but their struggles are a tale of two fights. To be a black woman
seeking liberation, one had to fight racial inequality and sexual inequality at the same time. Black
women who were involved in the Black Liberation Movement were discriminated against sexually
by black men who were oppressed by whites and felt they had to adopt patriarchal roles. Black
women in the Women s Movement faced racial inequality when white women discriminated against
them. Also within the Movement, little attention was devoted to class issues that seriously affected
black women. Not all the black men nor all the white women with both movements were sexist and
racist but enough of those with the highest influences were able to make the lives of the black
women in these groups almost intolerable. Black women faced constant sexism within the Black
Liberation Movement. The movement, though allegedly for the liberation of the entire black race,
was in reality only for the liberation of the black male. Freedom was associated with manhood and
the freedom of blacks with the recovery of black masculinity. It was stated that the real tragedy of
racismwas the loss of manhood. Assumptions that racism was more harmful to black men than it is
to black women were detrimental to their fight for equality. Black women also had to face the
added hindrance that some black men in the

as part of a united and independent Ireland?
Ireland is a small country and has a population of 1.5 million. Yet despite this small number, the

The IRA is an extreme paramilitary group which beliefs that peace can only be obtained by
violence and killing. This group has mainly been responsible for the killing of thousands of
civilians. This group believes that the only way to stop British presence in Ireland and get their
views across is to use force and aggression. After the Peace process of 1998 a small splinter group
known as the Real IRA was made. These were members of the IRA which were opposed to the
Good Friday agreement and so split and formed there own group.
Sinn Fein is one of the political parties that agree with the use of violence and what the IRA do.
This group however does not get involved in the killing but elects candidates such as Gerry Adams

The other main Nationalist party is the SDLP. Their main objective is also to have a united Ireland

The Controversy On Whether Sweatshops Should Be Banned
INTRODUCTION
Sweatshops have been a popular and serviceable business, although there are a lot of controversy
on whether sweatshops should be banned and hows pay wages should be higher. Many people
believe that sweatshops are unfair, cruel and unlawful, whereas others think that sweatshops are a
second chance for many people living in developing countries. The dictionary definition of a
sweatshop is factory or workshop, especially in the clothing industry, where manual workers are
employed at very low wages for long hours and under poor conditions, it is defined by the US
Department of Labor as a factory that violates 2 or more labor laws. Sweatshops are a frequent

These changes later spread across the world, and together they became known as the Industrial
Revolution. By the 1850s, there were factories in many parts of Britain and around the world, and
large, busy towns were developing around them. Although the factory owners were growing
rich and lived in grand houses, the workers were paid very little and were extremely poor. They
lived in dirty, crowded parts of town, known as the slums. This was the beginning of sweatshop
history, With factory towns sprouting all over countries , many farm families left their land in
order to make money in the new cities. The factory workers lived in the slums; they shared
cramped living quarters with many other families in dirty and disease infested communities. Many
of the conditions just described seem to match with the well known ways of sweatshops now. This
proves how little sweatshops have developed. Many people would agree that this a sinking point

Why High School Students Dropout
High School Dropouts Dropout is a broad term used to classify a person who has abandoned their
class or field of study. A great number of the teens that drop out of school are thought of as being

Be it living in low povertyareas and having to quit school to work and help the family out.
Struggling with learning disabilities and being in special education or even rebelliousness and

Teen birth rates were high in the same states with the poverty and special needs issues. With
Louisiana teen birth rate at 47.5 births per 100, ages 15 19(Wright). This means almost 50% of the
children born during this time frame were born to underage mothers entering high school or just
graduating. Typically, when a teen gets pregnant in high school they drop out. This is either due to
having to get a job and support her now new family or even the embarrassment of her situation. In
the south, particularly many teens are made to marry at young ages due to pregnancy and forced to
grow up. This situation is avoidable if parents would push their children to finish their high school
education and recognize how important receiving their diploma is.
I am hopeful as we enter a new time that the dropout rates in these southern states will become
less and less. That we can break the cycle on families having to depend of the government for
different programs to survive, so that we can begin to pour money into the school system to help
the teens with learning disabilities make it through school. I am hopeful that in these new times
teens are not forced to marry and stop pursing their education. I am optimistic one day everyone
will realize how important completing high school is and the rates we see now will soon be

Becoming A Better Writer
Before, when an essay is assigned, I usually begin by free writing. Free writing is a technique in
which a person writes continuously without worrying about spelling, grammar, or topic. Once I
have brainstormed, I put it all together and organize them in a clean way. After I have finished my
rough draft, I reread it multiple times, adding, changing, and deleting anything I believe can be
improved. Once I think I have done the best I can, I write my final.
Recently, my teacher has given me advice and helpful points on becoming a better writer. Writing is
not a task that can get better over night; writing is an art. We learn by mimicking the professionals,
and making it into our own interpretation. I have learned that when writing an essay, you

Sacrifice In Joan Aiken s Third Wish
Why would someone sacrifice their faith? In the Third Wish by Joan Aiken Mr.Peter has to take
a lot of faith to make other people happy, he sacrificed a lot but he still makes people happy, which
is not always easy. Mr. Peter drove his car, then found a swan . He got three wishes in the forest his
first wishthat the swan gave him a wife. The second wish that he used to find his wife s sister. He
did not want to use his third wish and he lived a very happy life. The Third wish by Joan Aiken
shows us the face and sacrifice can lead us to happiness or unhappiness.
I first saw the theme in the Third Wish when Mr. Peter goes out helps to swan. First, when Mr.
Peters gets out of his car and goes and helps this swan. First,

Analysis Of Vince Lombardi s Speech
Although Vince Lombardi may have given a famous motivational speech, his wasn t the only
important event that was happening that day. There were many other events that was happening
as well for example on the same day of Vince s speech was the Vietnam War. Vince adapted
Imagery,Metaphor, and similes in his speech,What It takes to be number one. He uses those words
because the words granted the audience motivation to feel like a king.Vince gave a speech on the
gigantic open field that they made history on,winning the superbowl. Vince gave this speech at the

Taking it back,as it may sounds lombardi in reality he also faces the reality of facing rivals of
other teams which also brings out the competitiveness in himself for his team to win.Every time
a football player goes to ply his trade he s got to play from the ground up from the soles of his
feet right up to his head Being the top alpha is the only rule Lombard sets for his team, he doesn
t need players who thinks having second place is okay only the mindset that being number one
is the only place is the best. Players who keeps their head up and never down is the one he wants,
he doesn t need players that won t push their boulders in order to win. Being a coach may be a
hard position but Lombardi was that coach who was there to keep pushing his team. Lombardi
may have been a coach that was harsh only wanted commitment and want his team to be number
one,not second. A lesson is that there are options, you want to win you go give it your all but if
you think it s alright to be second place there isn t any place for that just only first place.

According to Weitz (1991), a large scale survey carried out in the U.S.A found problems facing
an individual who is HIV positive or diagnosed with AIDS face discrimination largely down to
ignorance from people who just simply do not understand how it can be spread or how the
individual may have contacted the disease in the first place. Johnstone p.126 (2001) points out
that within the U.K there has been a shift away from bigoted public attitudes but the stigma
remains which is largely down to how the media portray the illness. Legislation such as the
Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was introduced to eliminate discrimination towards disabled
people in areas of employment, education, accessing facilities, goods or services and the
managing, buying or renting of land or property. Parts of it became law in December 1996, and
other parts have been introduced over time. For example, within organisations and businesses it
became unlawful for employers to treat disabled people less favorably than other employees for
a reason in relation to their disability. Reasonable adjustments have had to be made for any
person with a disability, such as making changes in service provision or providing extra help since
October 1999. Premises have also had to ensure any adaptations to allow access for disabled people

Apsy 475 Week 5 Self Reflection Paper
Reflection Paper Week One
Apsy 475
The Self Inventory test for chapter one is a series of questions that ask about how one views
Counselors as a person and a professional. Some of these questions were simple to answer because
there is already a strong opinion towards the context. Others, however, were much trickier to
answer. Mainly because I have not thought about the certain circumstance that was presented before.
The area that I found most relevant in regards to the relativity of the need for self awareness was
dealing with an angry client. I have thought about dealing with all other emotions and feel that I
will be able to accommodate and empathize with any other emotion in the spectrum, except anger. I
do not know why, but it makes me very uncomfortable. It may stem from having gone through
Marine Corp boot camp and being exposed to high levels of aggression and stress.
I am also a bit of a nerd so I never received much attention from the fairer sex. I fear that the
temptation of the flesh will be very present. I have found that when a female talk to me I feel
like I am getting special attention. I have done a lot of self reflecting on this and I have avoided
roles that carry ultimate authority because of it. I come from a long line of police officers. I have ...

find self awareness to be a valuable attribute in interpersonal relationships. Without having this
knowledge of myself, I would not understand why I respond certain ways to certain
circumstances. But having this knowledge gives me an advantage over my adversary because I

Great Gatsby Film Analysis
The Great Gatsby film shows a strong atmosphere and the soundtrack is perfectly combined with a
script that despite being able to be topical, just winning the game to what we believe will be pure
routine film. 3D for this adaption of The Great Gatsby, although modern, is unnecessary. 9 out of 10
star rating? I think yes!
The tempo of the story is true success, and Leonardo DiCaprio, spotless, we enter into a New
York post war fantastically. Moreover, the dialogues are superb, and above all, they are no better
than Tobey Maguire. Australian screenwriter, producer and director Baz Luhrmann s fifth feature
film which he co wrote with Australian screenwriter Craig Pearce and co produced, is an
adaptation of a novel from 1925 by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The Great Gatsby, set in New York 1922, is narrated by Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), and is a
story about the millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), who desperately tries to recover the
one person he ever loved, Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). She is married somewhat happily
to Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton), also another very rich fellow. The other characters consist of
professional golfer Jordan Baker (Elizabeth Dibicki), Tom Wilson (Jason Clarke), a gas station
owner, and his wife Myrtle (Isla Fisher.) When Nick moves next door to Gatsby in West Egg, he
is eventually invited to one Gatsby s famous parties and the story takes off. For those of you who

Because they are so vitally important, the brain and spinal cord, located in the dorsal body cavity,
are encased in bone for protection. The brain is in the cranial vault and the spinal cord is in the
vertebral canal of the vertebral column. In addition to bone, the central nervous system is
surrounded by connective tissue membranes, called meninges and by cerebrospinal fluid.
The brain is divided into the cerebrum, diencephalon, brain stem and cerebellum.
The largest portion of the brain is the cerebrum which is divided into two cerebral hemispheres. The
two hemispheres are two separate entities.
The diencephalon is centrally located and is nearly surrounded by the cerebral hemispheres. The
thalamus, which makes up about 80% of the diencephalon, consists of two oval masses of grey
matter that serve as relay stations for sensory impulses, except for the sense of smell, going to the
cerebral cortex.
The cerebellum is the second largest portion of the brain. Three bundles of myelinated nerve fibres,
called cerebellar peduncles, form communication pathways between the cerebellum and other parts
of the central nervous system.
The spinal cord extends from the base of the skull to the level of the fist lumbar vertebra and like

the brain, it is surrounded by bone, meniges and cerebrospinal fluid. The spinal cord is divided

What Is Life Of Pi Essay About Religion
Catastrophic events, both personal and collective, raise the question of divine Providence. How
can an infinitely good Creator allow the kind of evil that puts the divine goodness in doubt? The
question has been faced since patristic times. Theories of predestination have been proposed.
Spirituals have adored God in the mystery of divine Providence. There seems to be no other
solution than hope in the midst of despair. (Tavard pg707)
In 2001, Yann Martel published the novel Life of Pi an amazing story about religion, faith,
spirituality and a boy named Pi who is a practitioner of three major religions Islam, Christianity,
and Hinduism. Yann Martel makes a bold statement, while at the same time giving an answer to a
question that has been asked since the creation of religion saying: I have a ... Show more content on

Racial And Ethnic Differences Essay
Young children making sense of racial and ethnic differences: A sociocultural approach
Fostering cultural awareness in children has many benefits that contribute to the overall
development of children. Educators encounter challenges that may include academic pressure,
collaborating with diverse families, and meeting the needs of the students. This paper examines
theoretical perspectives using a longitudinal study. The study examined the experiences of children
ages 3.5 to 5.5, by using their everyday experiences of race and ethnic diversity in their classroom
setting. First, the article mentions parents perceptions on how children develop an understanding
for cultural awareness. The article notes that parents assume children are color innocent, therefore
the subject is often ignored. Further, children s understanding of culture is influenced through their
environment, resulting in developing misconceptions and biases. Therefore, it is crucial as
educators to examine closely how children make sense of racial and ethnic diversity in order to
determine the best approach to incorporate multicultural and antibias education. The author provides

Then, using the spark timer device we could measure the displacement, then calculate the velocity

dependent variable would be the acceleration. Furthermore, there are questions that could be

free fall ever positive? What is the free fall acceleration for other planets and how is that
