Pol Pot Biography
Pol Pot
Biography
Saloth Sar aka Pol Pot (19th May, 1925 15th April, 1998) was a Cambodian revolutionary who led
the Khmer Rouge. He was the 8th of 9 children born into a moderately wealthy rice farming family.
He grew up in Prek Sbauv, a small fishing village, where his family owned 50 acres of land or
roughly 10 times the national average as well as several buffalos. Pol Pot was educated at several
different schools in both Cambodia and France. In Cambodia, he attended a Buddhist monastery,
Cloe Miche, a catholic school in Phnom Penh and briefly LycГ©e Sisowath, an exclusive school
for academics. He then moved to Paris after gaining a scholarship and he studied radio technology.
Upon Pol Pot s return to Cambodia, the region was rebelling against the French colonial rule in
order to gain independence, which they achieved a year later. Meanwhile, Pol Pot joined the Khmer
People s Revolutionary Party (KPRP), an underground Marxist Leninist party. Between 1956 and
1963 Pol Pot became a taught history, geography and French literature whilst also plotting a
revolution simultaneously.
Significant Events
In 1962 the Cambodian government commenced arresting and killing authoritative members of the
communist party due to the upcoming elections and their desire to destroy any chance of the party
being elected. Due to the arrest and execution of the current leader Pol Pot was subsequently named
leader. Whilst Pol Pot was leading the Cambodian Communist Party restrictions on

The Immigration Of The United States
Many immigrant children are coming from different countries to the US and entering schools here
that do not provide them with the support they need in order to be successful. Schools in America
that accept these immigrant children in their school should provide more support to them.
Newcomers should have a counselor that could help them with problems in school such as Bullying
and discrimination. Also school districts should invest money in special programs that could focus
on these children to help them succeed academically in school. Context Tens of thousands of
children are fleeing the violence in their countries, coming to the U.S. The rate of immigrant
children started increasing from 2012, but in 2014 there was a drastic change on the number of
immigrant children entering the country. 2014 has been the year in which most children have
entered the country due to the increase of violence and poverty in their foreign countries. This
children are mostly coming from Mexico, Central America, South and East. After getting into the
US this children are sent to school by their parents or some others do not even have parents. In the
website Golden Door scholars, it identifies the amount of immigrants students in the US and how
many of these students will make it to college. The author writes, There are approximately 1.1 1.4
million undocumented students in the U.S. The fact that there are a lot of immigrants students in
US means that schools would

Hellenistic Miletus Research Paper
The Milesian system was structured originally on six tribes, but when they changed to a more
democratic system under Athenian influence they changed over to 12 tribes. It is highly
probable that they submitted their candidates for offices from these tribes. In order to become a
citizen one had to be enrolled in these tribes. Milesian territory was broken up into 5 or 7 demes
or districts. The earliest officials mentioned in decrees of Hellenistic Miletus are the synedroi,
whose status is not clear. They have been considered as either a standing committee of the city
council or as an ad hoc commission created to deal with specific problems. cg p. 67 They worked
with other city officials and institutions and were possibly responsible to the assembly. In the third
century there were around 75 members, which was reduced down to 10 in the late second century.
However, it is hard to know how frequent and the dates that the assembly met, but it is probable
that the assembly met at least once a month. It is also probable that they held special sessions that
dealt with matters prescribed by the law along with the other Greece cities. It was also likely that
they held the most important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miletus started under the influence of Athens, but with time and the influence of Alcibiades and
Sparta, they promoted a revolt against Athens. Miletus came under the siege of Athens, but hid
behind their walls and over time Athens gave up. Sparta and Persia used Miletus as a base
throughout the war. However, there was some confusion of who was in control and attempts to
throw out these powers from Miletus. Sparta in 405 BC helped change Miletus back to an
oligarchy, but they also had some struggles. The Peace of Atalcidas in 386 BC ended the
independence of Asia Minor, but they continued to use their constitution they had previously

The Liberal World Order Essay examples
The Liberal World Order
The liberal world order is as much an economic idea, as it is a political one. The liberal world order
is very much based on the rule of law. Such things are apparent in a liberal world order such as
individual liberties, private property and free trade.
According to Ludwig von Mises, a liberal world order was inseparable from liberal economic
policies:
A nation s policy forms an integral whole. Foreign policy and domestic policy are closely linked
together, they condition each other. Economic nationalism is the corollary of the present day
domestic policies of government interference with business and of national planning, as free trade
was the complement of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first of these stated by Mises was a free market for labour, in other words, the level of wages
and conditions should be set by the employers, after negotiation with the employees, rather than
being controlled by the government.
The second economic constraint set out by Mises was that there should be a market economy,
whereby the forces in the market should be left to work freely, that supply and demand should be
left to determine price rather than the government regulating this.
Thirdly, free trade is seen as an essential aspect of a liberal world order, he stated that it must be
free to import and export between countries, with out control by governments.
Finally, there must be a free market monetary system in place, in that the government must not
control either the value or the flow of money in the economy
Mises also argued that, if a country s domestic economic activity was to be fully privatised, this
would mean that the economic activity in that country would effectively be free from political
influences, as it would not be the government controlling it.
He argued that the way to attain peace and prosperity was not by governing and controlling, but
rather by limiting the level of governance, and that society would naturally sort itself out.
This idea was also agreed by Ricardo:

Beowulf as Christian Propaganda
The literary work of Beowulf is believed, by many, to contain numerous attributes of Christian
propaganda. Throughout the story of Beowulf, there are several circumstances and coincidences
that distinctly relate to the Christian belief system. One can only imagine that these ideas of
Christian propaganda; which include the use of Christianthemes and beliefs in works of literary art,
were strategically placed throughout the story of Beowulf to help the conversion from the old
world pagan religious belief system to the Christian beliefs of the new world. Historians believe that
Beowulf was written sometime in the eighth century in England. This fact is important because
during this era, society was in the process of converting from... Show more content on

While Beowulf may represent Christ in this part of the story, it can be viewed that Grendel
represents the devil. The battle between Beowulf and Grendel can represent the Christian theme
of good versus evil. To make the connection even more solid, Grendel is referred to as a
descendant of Cain, whom Satan tricks into sinning and committing the first murder in the
human world. Grendel represents the image of a man fallen from grace through sin. Like Satan
who is jealous of the happiness and joy that Adam and Eve have in the Garden of Eden, Grendel
is jealous of the happiness and joy in Heorot. Grendel, as with Satan, is a rival of God and poses
a great challenge to Beowulf, just as evil poses a challenge to Christians. Another connection that
Grendel shares with the devil is his dwelling. Grendel lives in an underworld just as Satan lives in
hell. Grendel is referred to in the poem as the guardian of sins . These small hints of the Christian
culture to come are a way of slowly introducing the Christian beliefs to the common people, and
perhaps getting them ready for the introduction of the stories of Jesus and his teachings. This way,
they have something to relate the stories of Jesus to, and the ideas of Jesus are not so new and
shocking. Perhaps the strongest relation to Christianity in Beowulf is in the last battle scene of the
story. The dragon is Beowulf s last and most intriguing battle. The dragon can be viewed as

The Civil War Museum Of New Orleans
The Civil War museum located in New Orleans is a very interesting museum to visit. On the
outside the museum stands out from the surrounding building as it has an older brick style
building which almost looks like a church in some aspects.. On the right side of the stairs that lead
up inside is a large cannonon display. Upon entering the museumit is made apparent that the
building is in good condition, but is also very old. Every step that I took while in the museum
sounded as if the floor was about to cave in underneath my feet. I was greeted upon entry to the
museum and I paid my entry fee and was given a sheet of paper with some general information
on the museum. Once leaving the desk I walked along the wall to my left which was covered in
glass cases that contained a multitude of civil war artifacts. The first thing that stood out to me
was a small set of hand carved wooden chess pieces. They were kept in great condition, along
with the bag that held them, aside from one hole in the bag itself. Above the glass cases were
Civil War flags for different regiments with a particular focus on the Louisiana based regiment.
Once I looked at the array of flags on left wall I focused my attention back to the glass cases
again. The further down the wall I progressed the more personal items I came across. Uniforms
and tokens given to soldiers from both the Confederates and the Union soldiers were on display
with plaques inside giving biographical information on the

Social Darwinism And Its Impact On Society
Social Darwinism was a concept that was an accepted theory in the nineteenth century. It originated
from Charles Darwin, which stated survival of the fittest , meaning the poor and weak were going
to die and that the rich and powerful received more power and growth. However, even though
Charles came up with the idea of Social Darwinism, he had other social Darwinists who actually
grasped the entire concept of Darwinismand applied it to Social Sciences. Social Darwinists like
Herbert Spencer who believed that the government should not try to change any type of social
environment because it would hurt the process of nature. An important aspect of Social Darwinism
is the Cultural one, which goes through Religion, Art, and music. Religion being something that
people in society believe in and followed wholeheartedly. Art has a range of paintings, drawings,
and sculptures from artists who were influenced by Darwin. Music has always been a part of
peoples lives and many different artists that occurred before and after Darwin.
Religion was an important issue that many people adhered to for the way of life. Herbert Spencer
preached family loyalty, personal providence, family responsibility, hard work, and proud self
sufficiency which were middle class virtues. In the nineteen century biblical criticism and religion
of a fundamental faith prepared many Americans for the acceptance of Darwinism. Religion has
always been something that people for many centuries have

Sample Of An Experiment On A Lab Preparation Of...
The objective of the experiment was to synthesize a sample of cyclohexene by using an E1 reaction,
which involved cyclohexanol.
Procedure Part A Preparation of Cyclohexene
Prior to beginning the procedure, a distillation setup was constructed in order to prepare for a
later step in the procedure; a diagram of the construction was included in Figure 1.A. In a clean
50 mL Erlenmeyer flask, 5 mL of water were placed, and, with extreme caution, 4.0 mL (8.0 g,
0.08 mol) of concentrated sulfuric acid were added to the flask while swirling; it was
emphasized that this acid can be highly corrosive and should be handled with care, especially
while pouring it into the water1. It was observed that the flask began to heat up as the acid was
added, and began to release a gas for a brief moment. Afterwards, the diluted acid was allowed to
cool to about room temperature and 3.2 mL (3.0 g, 0.030 mol) of cyclohexanol were added to the
mixture. The contents of the flask were carefully transferred to a 25 mL round bottom flask that
was attached to the distillation setup. The contents were distilled at a steady pace, making sure
that all the junctions and flasks were clasped appropriately in order to avoid any accidents. The
distillation was allowed to continue until the liquid found in the starting flask turned black and
began to emit a white gas. It was noted that at around 53 В°C distillate began to form, and at
around 92 В°C the liquid turned black. Approximately 2.8 mL of distillate

China is a tough sell. Silvio relayed how the lessons learned in India are useful for selling into
China; yet he says the effort required is significantly greater than getting sales in India once
Schindler began customizing its elevators. He says there are successes in China but he thinks
companies are thinking it s much more painless than it really is. Don t take the alliance between
India and China lightly. Silvio sees this development as fundamentally re defining the region and
having global impact very quickly. An excellent analysis of the strategic impact of this
relationship has been written by Jairam Ramesh, a member of the Indian parliament, in the April
18th edition of the Wall Street Journal. The article is here, and you ll need Wall Street Journal
online access to retrieve it. You can find Jairam s Web site here. There s another very good article
on this alliance written by Paul McDougall of Information Week here. Bottom line: No amount of
process re definition could have saved Schindler the pains associated with attempting to move into

The Four Major Components Of The Communication-Persuasive...
The communication persuasion paradigm has four major facets, which include the sender,
message, target, and effect. The sender is a critical component of the communication persuasion
paradigm in the sense that a persuasive communication process depends, in part, on the
characteristics of the sender (Jowett, O donnell, 2014). People place expectations on others
based on a range of factors, which can be social, political, economic, professional, and moral. As
such, there are people who can be described as famous or trendsetters on the mentioned grounds.
The persuasiveness of a piece of information is determined by the level of fame or respect that the
sender of such a message enjoys among a group of people (Dubois, Rucker, Galinsky,... Show more

For example, a message about delivering the selves from the oppression of a regime presented
without many facts are highly persuasive when the target is the oppressed population. Generally,
the levels of reasoning of the target and his or her abilities in understanding the information and any
possible consequences are important in achieving the outcome. The target is important because he
or she is the one generating feedback, which is crucial in understanding whether the message
reached the right person as intended. Additionally, it is significant because it is useful in assessing
the effects of the communicated information. Lastly, the persuasiveness of a communication
process depends on the effects it has caused (Jowett, O donnell, 2014). The effect is evaluated in
light of the changes that are observed since the communication was made and the feedback that has
been provided by the receiver. For example, the percentages of voter turnout in a certain area when
their political kingpin advises them not to participate in voting.
The effectiveness of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in persuading people, particularly the African
Americans was a factor of him as a trendsetter source, the appealing nature of the contents of his
messages, and the carefully selected intended targets (Arceneaux, Johnson, Cryderman,

Television News vs. Newspaper
Television news vs. Newspaper When it comes to finding about the news of what s going on in
our world, we want details and facts. We want the juice of what s actually going on. The debate
between the efficiency of newspapers and TV news, TV news is a lot more effective.
Watching the news on TV is a lot easier for people to understand and is more convenient than
reading it on paper. For the people who are always in a rush in the morning, it s more convenient
to turn on the TV and listen to what s going on rather than trying to read a paper because it will
only slow your task down. Also, for the people who don t know how to read and for elders whose
eyes don t function properly, the TV is a better source of finding out the news. Not only ... Show

The smallest story could be the most important; but if you have a newspaper, you won t be able to
find out what s going on, so you ll have to rely on the TV news to tell you what you want to
know. TV offers more options of news. People are mostly fond of making choices. Watching TV
can satisfy this requirement. Because there are many channels for options on news, for example,
ABC7 channel news doesn t provide you the news you want to know about, then you can always
change the channel. But the newspaper is published by one publication. Whatever information is on
there is what you have to stick with. The point of view and the news are somehow limited and
prejudice. So in order to get a comprehensive view, people can try many different channels to get an
understanding.
Unlike the TV news, newspaper are portable and has no time limited, this has the advantages that
people can read them whenever they want. But I believe that getting news from TVs is due to its
efficiency, convenience and easy understanding is a lot better than just reading the

From How Soccer Explains The World Chapter Summary
The book From How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization is written

globalization. Franklin Foer is an American journalist who used to work as an editor of The New

other is a freelance journalist. In his book Franklin elucidated the impact of globalizationon the

Our Time Is Up Analysis
The central aspects of documenting everyday life into a narrative that holds purpose and yet leaves
the audience with a resounding message is the essence of what a short film attempts to accomplish.
Film connects the two paradigms of visual and emotional appeal, while still capturing what it means
to be human. From the monotonous to the exorbitant interior of the seemingly intricate parts that
ultimately create the sum of our lives, the subject of death in of its parts, is insensitive to the
narratives that we place on ourselves. The affair of death within its incomparable and obstinate state
of the absolute is portrayed in a thoughtful way in short filmOur Time Is Up by Rob Pearlstein,
where a psychologist named Dr. Stern finds out he only has six weeks to live. The attentive matter
that is due in part of death is depicted in an unconventional way in which engages the audience in a

Do you know how you learn about your identity? Is it through eExperiences or people in your life?
According to dictanory.com identity means being a who or what as a person or a thing. For
example I have an identity, and you have identity. Identity is a really important thing. Individuals
learn about himself through the people in their lives.
Flowers and Freckle Cream is about a girl that thought poorly of herself and did not like the way
that she looked. Until her grandpa really helped her know that she is special, and that she matters.
I don t know where grandpa found it. It wasn t at all common in the mountains where we lived.
But I know he put it in my room because my mother told me later. I had cried myself to sleep that
night, and when I opened my swollen, sticky eyes the next morning, the first thing I saw , lying on
the pillow next to my head, was a tiger lily. It was clear that grandpa didn t understand, so I tried
to explain why I didn t want to have freckles and why I felt so inadequate when I compared my
appearance with Janette Elizabeths. He looked at me in stunned surprise, shook his head, and
said, But child there are all kinds of flowers and they are all beautiful. I said, I ve never seen a
flower with freckles! P.G. 399 Elizabeth ad changed from her grandpa because he is telling her
that she can be unique and there are all different kinds of flowers. There is not just one expectation
of what you need to look like. Everyone looks different, and

Pride And Prejudice By Elizabeth Bennet
In today s society, young girls have been taught to believe in their perfect Cinderella wedding
where they will marry their Prince Charming in a beautiful dress and eventually live happily ever
after. The film industry portrays marriage as picture perfect, in which every girl has their dream
wedding and true love always finds its way. Contrary to the media s view, marriagewas not always
a fairy tale because women had the responsibility to help provide for their family. During the
English Regency period, young girls married for financial security and social benefits to improve
their family s status. In Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet rebelled against this mainstream
idea of marriage set by society, in order to marry for true love. Set during the Regency period, Pride
and Prejudicefocuses on the upbringing of women in a male dominated society in which marriage
was the only escape from destitution. For women, the story emphasizes the major motives behind
matrimony such as financial stability, social pressure, and passion, but it ultimately embodies the
idea that females are capable of marrying for true love. In the following pages, this essay will first
provide background information about society during the English Regency and the marriage
customs set for women during this time period. This essay will then offer a brief summary of
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. Finally, this essay will analyze the various motives of
marriages presented between

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Futurisation
Introduction
Swaps in simple language means, the act of exchanging one thing for another. In financial terms
it means an agreement in which two parties agree to exchange series cash flows at some future
times according to terms stated in the agreement (Chance and Brooks 2012). They are derivatives
because their value is ascertained from some other financial instrument, such as a loan or bond.
Swaps are generally priced based on a notional value, which is the dol¬lar value of a contract.
The most common type of swap is the interest rate swap in which the two parties agree to enter into
an agreement which involve the exchange of payments of fixed rate interest for the payments of
floating rate interest or vice versa in the same currency calculated by reference to a mutually agreed

For examples this disparity may arise in fixed coupon rates. The company may be exposed to other
risk, if it does not have an exact or close enough match for the risk being hedged. In realty these

and the company may face greater risk (Banwait 2013).
Increased risk for clearing house
The margins on swap contract are calculated differently and are higher than futures contract which
has led to the migration of swaps to futures. The volume of transactions cleared by futures clearing
house has risen significantly as the movement of swaps to futures take place. But as this volume
increases, the futures clearing house can be exposed to a greater risk of failure (Litan 2013).

Interview A Wonderful Woman Who Is An Educator, Wife And...
I was given the opportunity to interview a wonderful woman who is an educator, wife and
mother. Helen or Ms. Helen as her 4k students know her as, is always there with an open ear and
wonderful advice. She works with each child in their own way, preparing them for preschool.
She really believes that there is a light in every child that should be seen by the world. With the
encouragement of a teacher like her, children will be able to spread their wings to become who
they are truly meant to be. It was only a few years ago when Helen decided to change her lifestyle
by working with children. Having four children of her own, she understood how important having
a good role model for children was. She sets high expectations for her family, students and for
herself by being confident of who she is and what she represents. She understands that good role
models are open and honest about admitting fault if they make a mistake. She is a strong enough
person now to understand and see the mistakes she has made in her past. She keeps in mind
everyday, why Godbrought her into this world and to find the message she needs to share. Helen
grew up in River Falls WI with a family of eight, her being the second youngest where quietness
was not a word. As kids they all liked to get into their own trouble such as, flying off the roof
with a garbage bag as a cape. They were all fun loving kids with a lot of responsibilities. Having so

Service Learning Project Paper
Service Learning Project When I began my Civics class, thinking it potentially difficult and
boring, I did not initially look forward to this project. However, as I did each activity, I found
myself enjoying each and every one. From sitting in a board meeting to collecting trash, I
discovered something new in all of the ways I volunteered. Not only did the people I volunteered
for gain something through my service, but I feel that I gained a lot as well.
The first activity I completed was observing a Davidson County School Board meeting on the topic
of an information breach that occurred. I took notes throughout the meeting and supported
every teacher that spoke about their concerns. Collecting trash around the Ledford High School
campus, both the football and baseball stadiums on two different occasions, was the next
activity I completed. I then helped to paint a set for the Ledford Production of The Music Man.
When the Special Olympics was held at Ledford, I decided to use that opportunity to become a
buddy. I took the athlete and his family that I was paired with around to the different games that
were offered, and got him water and snacks when he needed it. I was also a buddy for multiple
athletes at the Miracle League of High Point. I assisted and encouraged each child as they batted,
ran the bases, and played in the outfield in every game. I chose to attend the School Board meeting
because I was interested to see how the release of Davidson County employee information affected
their lives. My mother is a teacher, and I was curious if other employees shared her concerns ...

Native American Mascots And Native Americans
1.Is the use of Native American mascots/ nicknames a thing of honor and pride or a stereotype of
Native Nations. For many years colleges and professional sports organizations made the choice to
select a mascot with relations to Native Americans, some being more noticeable and others being a
bit sneaky with their name. But nicknames for these organizations are often used without being
affiliated with a Native Nation, like the Redskins, Chiefs, Warriors, Tribe, and Indians. While other
organizations would often have a relationship with a certain Native Nations as a way of them being
allowed to use such nickname like the Utes, Blackhawks, Seminoles, Illini, and Fighting Sioux.

Who Is Willy Wonka A Naturalist
One is given many optional ways on how to think and coexist in this world. Whether the center
of your life is solely nature, a mystical being, or God, you are isolated by divisional barriers based
upon your mental state. A naturalist believes that everything can be explained as a product of a
combination of physical facts and physical laws. Naturalism deals with more raw and explicit
details of life rather than focusing on the happy endings that a realist would rely on. In Naturalism
one s actions are controlled by nature, their environment, or heredity. As you venture into the
mind of a Naturalist you will be able to see that God has nothing to do with this way of life. This
group of people thrive off of preconceived notions rather than on the idea of change ; therefore

place and lens within the city s legacy and youth culture. The concept of youth having autonomy
in public spaces is nonexistent in american culture. Youth are trained from a young age that
adults control their use of public spaces. Children are welcome in public space as long as an
adult controls how the child interacts. For instance, an adult of teacher is in control of how a
child interacts in the sandbox, the playground and during recess. Once the child enters middle
school and teen years, some autonomy develops which puts adults on edge as they want to control
how youth behave in these spaces. Our culture dictates to youth that they are not allowed to enter

Examples Of Metatheory
There are many metatheoretical traditions that have influenced modern social sciences as we know
it today. This essay critically compares the two different concepts such as objectivity and neutrality
in various educational theories and systems such as: Missionary education, Apartheid education,
Post Apartheid education, Revised National Curriculum Statement (RNCS) and Curriculum
Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS). We discuss the applications of these two seemingly different
concepts and their application in different educational theories such as: Constructivism,
behaviorism and social cognition. Furthermore, we discuss objectivity and neutrality in various
educational contexts. I will attempt to show that education cannot be neutral if the objectives are
politically and economically driven.
Defining metatheory
Metatheory is the study aimed at understanding the nature of social inquiry (Babbie Mouton, 1998).
There are different names for metatheory such as: metascience, philosophy of science and the
epistemology of science (Babbie Mouton, 1998). According to Babbie and Mouton metatheory has

This study draws on an array of evidence based literature to promote positive behaviour amongst

Analysis Of The Seventh Man
The seventh man should forgive himself for his failure to save K. s life. In the novel the seventh
man , the seventh man is a child during a typhoon. He and his best friend ,K., go down to the
water during the eye of the storm to investigate the shoreline. When they reached the beach, there
were lots of unfamiliar and fascinating items washed up on the shore. The boys were so focused
on the treasures that, consequently, they did not notice the waves creeping up the shore. Our
narrator, the seventh man, noticed a huge wave moving quickly and maliciously in from the
horizon. As he runs to shelter behind the breakwall, he yells for K. to run away from the water.
However, K. is still entranced by the debris at the shoreline and doesn t hear him. The seventh
man knows that he should go back for K., but he is transfixed by the horror of it all and only
springs into action to run behind the breakwall. K. finally realizes what is going on and tries to
run away; but, it is too late. K. is sucked away from the beach in a thunderous torrent of water. In
the next wave that attacks the shoreline, the seventh man sees K. s body; grinning horrendously
and wickedly at him. He is traumatized and feels responsible about K. s death until the day he
finally learns to forgive himself. He spends many long years being tortured by his guiltat K. s death.
He needed to let go of the pain that he carried for all those long and terrible years. Maybe he could
have saved K., maybe he couldn t have; but

How Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects For...
Divorce is one of many controversial subjects in family and human development research. What
inspired me to critically analyze the article Does Divorce Create Long Term Negative Effects for
Children? is the challenge it would be for me to put my bias aside considering I am from a
divorced home. After reading the article and analyzing it over and over, I can t help but think that
the writer answering YES to this controversial question overlooked many variables and over
generalized his findings and research. With Zinsmeister overgeneralizing his research, not
considering enough alternate explanations for long term negative effects divorce, and his lack of
relevant information needed to assess reliability and validity are why I find this article to be
insightful but not accurate and hope to show why.
In the introduction to the article, the authors David Gately and Andrew Schwebel best wrote Karl
Zinsmeister uses studies of children and divorce to argue against the contention made by many
parents that it is better to divorce than to rear children in a marriage with conflict. He maintains that
children s sense of stability and family structure supersedes parental needs. Throughout the article
Zinsmeister uses the headings Fear and Loathing of Divorce Among the Young , Short and Long
Term effects of Divorce on Children , and A Catalogue of Behavioral Changes as a platform to
prove/explain his opinions and back them by research.
Essentially Zinsmeister wrote one: that

Rhetorical Analysis Of Invictus
Invictus Rhetorical Analysis Essay A time of difficulties always comes and goes and it has always
been known to stay strong during those times. This, in many ways, connects to countless people,
including great writers who often describe their difficult times through acting or other forms of
writing. William Ernest Henleywas an author who used his challenges to write a poem. This was a
dramatic but motivational poem that heavily used rhetorical devices to describe how he
managed through his darkest times. William Ernest Henley took use of personification,
connotation, and alliteration in the poem Invictus to prove that anyone can overcome obstacles
by staying strong and believing in themselves. For a start, Henley gave human like
characteristics to words so he could, in a way, visually show that the mind should always remain
strong in difficult times by using personification. He dramatically describes that sometimes not
everything goes accordingly as he says, In the fell clutch of circumstance (5). Here, the author
makes circumstance seem evil or bad. The action that he characterized circumstance of doing
expresses that challenges can come at the worst times. Even more, he is describing that
circumstance has a fell clutch implying that he went through a horribly long and dark period.
This gives the reader a perspective that occasionally things do not always go their way. It
connects to the theme that difficult times are always thrown at one s way and that they may not
always be prepared for the challenging part of those times. Henley took advantage of
personification once again to relate to his theme. Henley shows his courage through his dark
times by saying, And yet the menace of the years/Finds, and shall find, me unafraid. (11 12) Here,
Henley makes the word year seem mean or cruel. He does this by describing that it is a menace
otherwise implying that it is harsh or cruel. By including that it searches for him, he also indicates
that he ran into difficult times often, but stays optimistic by saying that it found him unafraid. This
makes the reader aware that even though challenges always come up, they should always be
courageous, just like he was. Henley writes that he stayed positive during

Neo-Keynesian Economics Summary
John Maynard Keynes (1883 1946) is a British economist who is the founder of Keynesian
economics and the father of modern macroeconomics. He published his foundational book: The
General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, in 1936 less than a decade after the great
depression of 1929. His theories were largely in contrast with classical economics. Between the
1970s and the 1990s, more economists reviewed the Keynesian economicsand proposed some
changes, they are known as the New Keynesian economics or Neo Keynesian. James Tobin,
Gregory Mankiw, and David Romer developed the foundations of Neo Keynesian (Greenlaw, n.d).

Treatment For Non Compressible Hemorrhages
Current Problems
Hemorrhages, or internal bleeding, account for a large portion of deaths in the world. Hemorrhages
are an extremely life threatening injury that require immediate medical attention. These injuries are
extremely sensitive to the time of injury and the time it takes for surgery to begin. Hemorrhages fall
into two main categories: non compressible and compressible. Compressible hemorrhages can be
treated with external compression, tourniquets, and dressings. Non compressible hemorrhages can
not be treated with these techniques, because the injury is usually deep inside the abdominal part of
the body and either not visible, or not within reach. This makes non compressible hemorrhages
much more challenging to treat.
Current Treatments
Treatment for non compressible hemorrhages depends on the location of the hemorrhage; if the
wound is relatively shallow in the abdominal area and it is possible to reach the site of bleeding,
then gauze and fluid resuscitation may be used. Unfortunately, these techniques are not very
effective over time. If the injury is internal, like an injury to the spleen, liver or retroperitoneal
vasculature, then the only current treatment is emergency surgery. However, most non compressible
hemorrhage injuries occur when medical treatment is not immediately available; transport time to
reach a hospital could take hours, compromising the survival rate of the injured patient.
An ideal treatment for a non compressible hemorrhage would be to

Comparing Way To Rainy Mountain And Being Country
Essay 2Scott Momaday s The Way to Rainy Mountain and Bobbie Ann Mason s Being
Country are two the texts to be compared. Though they share similarities, they too are quite
different. They both share similar topics, in that they are two stories of cultures, but written from
different perspectives of their cultures. Momaday is from the Kiowas tribe of the plains of
Oklahoma, and Mason from a farm in Mayfield, Kentucky. Both exhibit some comparisons, but
mostly contrasts throughout their writing. Momaday s American Indian heritage dates back to the

when she was born in 1940. I found both to be stories of each of the author s lives ... Show more

Momaday shows contentment in his work.
Mason, on the other hand, shows more resentment in hers. Bobby Ann Mason begins by describing
the simplicity of how her family lives. She begins this writing from when she was eleven years
old. Her mom and Granny were very dedicated farm women. They took care of all of the food,
clothing and just about anything else needed for them to run a household. As Mason shows, they
prove to be very resourceful and are capable of making the most out of what they have available.
On a typical day of food preparation by Mason s mom and Granny, Mason screams
Can t y all talk about anything but food? There was a shocked silence. Well, what else is there ?
Granny asked. Granny didn t question a women s duties, but I did. I wanted to be somebody,
maybe an airline stewardess. Also, I had been listening to the radio. I had notions
(106). She was beginning to develop her independence. Mason thought she would strive to better
herself to not have to suffer her mother s fate. She almost seems to be developing anxiety and
depression over food, though her family always seems to get by with plenty. I think this
dependence on nature was at the core of my rebellion. I hated the constant sense of helplessness
before vast forces, the continuous threat of failure...I especially hated women s part in the
dependence (106). She talks of

Essay about Marie Antoinette
Marie Antoinette
FMM 1200
Marie Antoinette
Maria Theresa of Austria thought she was sealing a favorable alliance between France and Austria
(New World Encyclopedia) by having her daughter, Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna, marry Louis
XVI, but she was actually unknowingly giving her a chance to make fashion history.
Life History
When Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna wed Louis XVI, she was told to leave everything behind;
her Austrian clothes, possessions, servants, her animal and even her name was changed to Marie
Antoinette. She was then dressed in French clothing and presented with jewels including an
elaborate diamond necklace which had belonged to Anne of Austria and pieces which had also
belonged to Mary Queen of Scots and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wore the newest looks from Rose Bertin, among them the provocative robe a la polonaise,
with its bosom enhancing bodice and its billowy, ankle baring skirts, the whole crowned by a
pouf, a 3 foot mountain of powdered hair decked with plumes, veils, and other objects (Hollander,
2006).
Another dress of style she came to wear after becoming a mother is known as chemise a la reine.
She stopped wearing all the glitz and glam that she had been known for and opting for a simpler
look in her outfits. She began wearing a light, shapeless dress called a gaulle. It was made of
layers of simple muslin, loose fitting and shaped by a sash tied around the waist. It also didn t
have the usual panniers under the skirt, which were often so extreme that door frames had to be
widened to accommodate dresses. It meant the material could mold around the legs, also shocking
at the time (Winterman, 2012). Critics of this type of dress said she looked as though she were
wearing just undergarments.
In conclusion, Marie Antoinette was not only a prominent figure in history, but she could also be
noted as an important mention in fashion history as well. She paved the way for a new type of
look and style that others during the time would not have ever thought of doing.

Compare And Contrast Alka-Seltzer With Hydrochloric Acid
The purpose of this experiment was to mix Alka Seltzer with Hydrochloric acid in order to
analyze Sodium Bicarbonate as an active ingredient in the Alka Seltzer. The mixture will contain
hydrochloric acid to only see the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in the tablet once it reacts.
The amount that reacted allowed us to determine how much of it is present in the tablet. The
amount of sodium bicarbonate will be measure by using the ideal gas lawPV=nRT. The experiment
will be conducted in the lab, therefore we are going to use room temperature which ranges from 15
to 26 degrees celsius. At room temperature pressure ranges from 12.8 to 25.0 millimeters mercury
according to its corresponding room temperature. In the ideal gasequation R is 0.08206latm/mol k
which is a constant. Once we have those values we can calculates the number of moles that
reacted in the mixture by solving for the missing value. With the number of moles we are able to
find the mass in grams which is what will potentially tell us the composition of Sodium
Bicarbonate in a tablet of Alka Seltzer.
Results: There were three different runs in order to have comparable data and to increase the
validity of the experiment. The first run gave 39% of Sodium Bicarbonate. The second run gave
34% of Sodium Bicarbonate while the third one gave 39%, which is the same as the first run. The
average percentage was 37% which is much lower than the manufacturer s percentage of 59%. The
percent error came out to be 37%.
Discussion: The manufacturer results shows that Alka Seltzer has 1.9 grams per tablet. In the
experiment the results are too small compared to the number that is given by the label. In the first
run only .0588 grams reacted to the acid. That suggest that the tablet only contains 0.588 grams of
sodium bicarbonate which is very different from the manufacturers. The second run gave an even
smaller number of gram. In terms of moles only .0007 reacted in the first and third run and only
.0006 in the second run. There are many factor that could had alter the amount of moles that reacted
to the acid which affected the result in showing that there is a smaller composition of sodium
bicarbonate in the tablet than that of the manufacturer s. The

Khaled Hosseini s The Kite Runner
Ordinarily, pieces of literature show scenes of violence. These events are not just placed
haphazardly; often times, these predicaments are intricately set to build the meaning of the work.
Wighout this kind of violence, some points in the novel would be hard to comprehend. In Khaled
Hoseini s The Kite Runner, multiple cases of compulsion are demonstrated. Khaled Hosseiniuses
symbolism and sense of mood during these situations contribute to the understanding of his literary
work. Chapter seven of the novel opens somewhat normal, with two young boys, Amir and Hassan,

When Amir gets the notorious call from Rahim Khan and asked upon his arrival to save Sohrab,

Amir finally finds the place where Sohrab is and is coincidentally confronted by Assef. The fight
scene here is brutal, and full of bloodshed. However, rather than feeling pain, Amir feels at peace
, healed , and satisfied. Overall, the scene is relieving and peaceful, at least for Amir. At the
time, Amir s pain makes him feel happy by suffering. Though Assef brings a mood of obscurity,
Amir s recent catharsis brings about one of relief. Throughout the whole fight, Amir knows that
he really isn t going to win; but, winning was not the goal. When Amir decides not to rin from
Assef, he welcomed the pain rather than running away from it as he did early on in the novel.
Amir feels as though this is the punishment that he deserved because of his unfaithfulness to

Low Birth Weight Affects A Child s Development
The first area to review is the previous weight of mothers at the time of their last menstruation.
The weight of the mother prior to pregnancy provides insight to her previous health and the

In the short fiction A good man is hard to find written by Flannery O connor The family goes on
a road trip to Florida, and the grandmother doesn t want to go because there is an escaped
murderer who is told to be headed to Florida. There are many different views of the story, but
most of them revolve around the underlying religious message. The author uses foreshadowing,
and irony to show what this story portrays. O connor is from the south and is catholic. The
grandmother in the story is a big believer in god, and talks about him a lot throughout. John
Desmond says how the title reminds him of a story in the Bible when Christ rebukes Peter when
he tried to call him good , and Jesus says that no one should be called good, and how in the story
the grandmother continues to call the misfit good (Desmond). Nome, I ain t a good man (191) He

doesn t believe in Jesus and that he threw everything off balance when he claimed to raise the

the dead, so because of this he has no faith. This totally contradicts the grandmother s beliefs. Even

Blackberry Picking Seamus Heaney Analysis
In Blackberry Picking, Seamus Heaney isn t just retelling an experience. He masterfully weaves
in a hidden lesson that becomes clear as the reader nears the end of the poem. His description of
picking blackberries is in itself a metaphor of one s childhood memories and their perception at
the time. He utilizes literary devices such as imagery, allusions and narrative point of view to set
the mood, change the tone and draw in his readers. Mr. Heaney also structures his poem into two
different sections, with each telling the story in a different tone with a different purpose behind it.
However, what s more impressive is his use of intense diction to layer the poem with emotion and
imagery that services his hidden message.
Seamus Heaney begins the poem by placing a time stamp on it. It begins in Late August a time for
harvest which lays the groundwork for the harvesting that will ensue in terms of setting. That
description places the reader in the right mood and mindset that Mr. Heaney builds on with his ...

manner. He conveys his experience in a romanticized manner like when he mentioned the

romanticized language and into a more natural language. While his intense language doesn t fade, it

Whether it is a kid, a baby, a person being happy, laughing, or in an upset mood, poverty, death,
