ESSAYS An Essay is a piece of writing in which we analize a topic , providing different arguments . Your ideas must follow a logical and coherent order . When asked on an exam to discuss the importance or impact of an event , organise your answer in the format of an essay .

DIVISION INTO PARAGRAPHS Divide the essay into paragraphs . Each paragragh has a clear purpose : 1) Introduction 2) First argument 3) Second argument 4) Third argument 5) Conclusion

INTRODUCTION This first paragraph introduces the topic sentence clearly and in general terms , ( why it is important or why people have different opinions about it , which was the impact of the event , if there is any debate). DO NOT express you opinion at the beginning of your essay . DO NOT copy the same words of the given task . You may paraphrase them , using synonyms . The INTRODUCTION may be written in a short paragraph . Do not make it long .

ARGUMENTS Use one paragraph for each argument . Each paragraph must begin with a supporting sentence . Start with the argument you are in favor of supporting it with historical facts . You can provide examples for each argument . Remember to adress economic , political and social factors . CONCLUSION Your last paragraph , CONCLUSION, must be connected to the INTRODUCTION. Throughout the Essay the reader should understand which of the arguments you are supporting . LANGUAGE Use formal language DO NOT use contractions ( don´t , aren´t , they´re ). DO NOT use expressions such as : gonna , wanna , stuff , thing … Avoid repetition of ideas and words . Use synonyms ! Use Passive Voice whenever possible . When telling events from the past , use past tenses. You may use present tenses if it has a narrative sense / purpose / aim .
