It includes Africa,South
Sahara,Madagaskar and Southern
Arabia.
Darlington And William George
separated Madagaskar from it due
to its distinctive fauna
Its is bounded by Palearctic
region in North and remaining
sides Sea

Climatic conditions:
 It is mainly tropical.
It has big Rivers
It has large blocks of big evergreen forest in
equatorial region
Mountainous region and wide grassy plants in
eastern part
Its southern part has warm temperate climate
with mixed vegetation

FAUNA:
The vertebrate fauna is rich,varied
and well marked with a number of
endemic genera and families
The fauna resembles the
Neotropical and Oriental regions

FISHES:
Fish fauna exhibit diversity including Cat
fishes,cyprinids,cyprinodonts cichlidsand
characinids
The exclusive fish families are
Archiac Birchirs
Protopterus(Lung fish)
Iso spondyli fishes
Few cat fishes
Mormirids or african electric fishes

AMPHIBIANS:
It is less distictive.
Represented by
caecilians,Bufonide,Ranide,Rhacophoride,
Brevicipitids
RANA and BUFO are absent
The family pipide is represented by
Xenopus(The clawed toad)-endemic to this
region
The tailed amphibians are absent

Crocodiles and turtles are numerous
Turtles are represented by
trionychidae,testerdinidae and pelomedusidea
Out of 50 species of Chameleons 46 are
present here only
Chameleonidae is almost exclusive
Cordylidae,spiny
lizarda,pythons,typhlops,septotyphlops and
viperids are the snakes of this region

BIRDS:
Very numerical having strong affinities with
oriental region birds
67 families out of which 53 are worldwide,3
are shared by oriental and 6 are exclusive
Common birds are
Hornbills,Herons,Cuckoos,Parrots,Pigeons,
swallows, Bee
catchers,Shrikes,Pinches,Bustards,Guinea
fowls etc..

BIRDS:
Birds shared with oriental region
are Honey guides,Bulbuls and
Prood bills
The Exclusive birds are
Ostriches,Secretory Birds,Helmet
Birds, Pitta mouse birds and
Hammer headed birds.

MAMMALS:
Mammalian fauna is diverse
It includes 38 familes excluding bats
12 families are exclusive like
Giraffes,Hippopotamus,Aardvarks,
3 families of insectivores like ShrewsGolden
moles Aye aye and elephant shews.
 6 families of Rodents like Anomaluridae,
African flying squrrel,pedetidae,African jumping
Hare,Cave rats and rock rats

MAMMALS:
In addition different sps.. Of Zebras, antelopes
are unique.
Rhinoceros,Horses and pangolins are alomost
exclusive
The other sps.. That are shared with other
regions are Hedge
hogs,porcupines,civents,Hyenas and pigs
Dormice,jerboas,donkey and wild horses are
shared with Palearctic region

MAMMALS:
Oriental mammals seen here are
Loris,old world monkeys(lemurs),
Apes(Chimpanzee abd Gorilla),
Pangolins,Bamboorats,elephants,lox
odonta, Rhinoceros and chevrotins.
