Introduction Charminar means Four (Char), Pillar ( Minar ) in Urdu. It’s located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Built by Quli Qutub Shahi in 1591. Official emblem of Telangana. It stands near the banks of Musi River.
Architecture Charminar is an Indo – Islamic Architecture. It’s a square structure with four grand arches that open into four streets. Each pillar has a bulbous dome with dainty, petal – like designs at base. Granite, limestone, pulverized marble and mortar were used in construction. The clock on the four cardinal directions was added in 1889.
Additional Information Landmark monument was constructed to serve as a Madrasa (School) in the first floor Mosque in the second storey . The four towers represent glory of four Khalifas (leaders) of Islam. It was built to end the deadly plague that spread in the city. Charminar appeared on coins and banknotes of the Hyderabad Princely State. Charminar holds the tales and History of Hyderabad.
