A company wants to make a toy to help children how to tell time. The toy is aimed at children who are aged 5-6 years. Research : Ways and means of how children learn to tell time. The design and construction of learning toys for young children. Identify a theme to make a toy more interesting on which you will base your research and collect some information about it. Use the results of your research to help you write a detailed specification for a toy to help children aged 5-6 years learn how to tell the time produce and evaluate a range of ideas for a toy to help children aged 5-6 years learn how to tell time. Carry out tests and trials to establish the construction and joining methods, materials and dimensions that you will use to make a prototype toy to help children aged 5-6 years learn how to tell time. Produce a working drawing of the toy. Use the prototype of the toy. Use photographs and notes to record the making process. SITUATION Established in 1999 , the VACOAS SCHOOL is a beacon of inclusivity and innovation, particularly in addressing the needs of children with disabilities. Recently, teachers identified a challenge among 5-6 -year-olds struggling with time-telling, causing frustration. In response, the school embarked on a collaborative journey with designers to explore creative solutions. This initiative not only aims to underscore the school’s commitment to personalized education. By addressing specific challenges like time-telling difficulties, the school ensures that every child receives the support they need to thrive and develop essential skills, setting a standard for inclusive education.

PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION USER REQUIREMENT The clock toy that will be designed have some requirements . The clock toy need to be : Built with strong, eco-friendly cardboard. Uses safe, colourful paints. Includes easy-to-read numbers and clock hands. Stands steady on any surface. Comes with simple assembly instructions. Safe for kids with smooth edges. Can be customized with stickers. MATERIALS Single face corrugated predominantly consist of two layers of paper (an outer liner and fluting) and is supplied in rolls or cut size. It is highly flexible and good for protecting small ,large, or irregular shape product . It is the strongest type of cardboard. It is corrugated fibreboard. If we were being very general about it , if you wanted to get more specific, there is double wall corrugated, making it perfect for situation which need heavy-duty boxes Double wall is an ideal board grade for large, heavy product. Plywood is made from thin layers of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. It is highly versatile, strong and resistance to cracking, shrinkage and twisting warping. MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibre, combining it with wax and resin binder. MDF is dense, smooth, and perfect for painting or verneerig , making it ideal for detailed craft projects and toy parts. Solid wood is the most straightforward type, directly cut from logs and used in its natural state. Each type of solid wood has unique characteristics: OAK: Durable and has a prominent grain pattern, suitable for study toy PINE: Soft, easy to work with, and light colored , ideal for lightweight toys. Redwood is very soft and workable, and it’s also lightweight. It ranges in color from pale white or yellow to deep red to reddish brown. Growing as tall and quickly as these giants do, the grain is typically straight, with old-growth redwood grain being very tight. The wood has a rough texture, and it’s rot-resistant and very insect-resistant, making it a great choice for decks and other outdoor projects.
