KODOKAN Jigoro Kani started his first class in a small temple in Tokyo, Japan called “ Kodokan ” It still exist today as the best and most highly regarded institute in Japan that offers Judo instruction
Traditionally, the dojo should not be built just any way. For example, it must follow strict rules concerning its orientation. “ Shomen ” or “Dojo front” is installed in the dojo. As a general rule, Shimen is located at the north end of the dojo, that is facing south and is treated as “ Kamiza ” or “Joseki”, that is upper seats.
