What is Fauvist Art? Fauvist Art is a part of French art, focusing on bright, colourful pictures. It was a movement of painters who named themselves Fauves (After the Wild Beast) and shocked exhibit audiences on their first public appearance, in 1905. It started in the early 1900’s.
Who painted Fauvist Paintings? The painters who painted famous Fauve paintings include: Henri Matisse Paul Gauguin Andre Derain Raoul Dufy Maurice de Vlaminck Kees van Dongen Albert Marquet Charles Camoin Georges Braque Othon Friesz Henry-Charles Manguin Jean Puy
Famous Examples Here are some examples of Fauvist art. Andre Derain – Boats (1905) Henri Matisse – View of St. Trop (1904) Maurice Vlaminck – The Bridge at Chatou (1905) Andre Derain – Charing cross bridge (1905)
Conclusion I like that most pictures are bright and colourful, but also peaceful and calm at the same time. I don’t really like the way that lots of the paintings aren’t very realistic and are a little scruffy (the painting techniques). I know it’s meant to create an effect but I’d prefer it if the art looked more realistic. I think that overall, there are more good points about Fauvist art than bad points. The art is actually very interesting and detailed.
