Fiber" can refer to a substance in plants and other materials or dietary fiber, a type of carbohydrate from plants that the body cannot digest but provides significant health benefits. Dietary fiber is divided into soluble fiber (which slows digestion, helps lower cholesterol, and stabilizes blood sugar) and insoluble fiber (which helps move waste through the intestines and prevents constipation). Good sources of dietary fiber include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and beans.
What is Dietary Fiber?
Indigestible carbohydrate:
Fiber is a carbohydrate found in plant-based foods that the body cannot break down into sugar.
Health benefits:
It plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy digestive system, regulating blood sugar, lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol, and supporting gut health.
Two main types:
Soluble fiber: Dissolves in water to form a gel, helping to control blood sugar and reduce cholesterol levels. Found in oats, beans, apples, nuts, and blueberries.
Insoluble fiber: Adds bulk to stool and helps waste move through the intestines, which prevents constipation. Found in whole wheat bread, brown rice, leafy green vegetables, and the skins of fruits.
How to Incorporate Fiber into Your Diet
Eat fruits and vegetables: Include a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially those with edible skins and seeds.
Choose whole grains: Opt for whole-grain breads, cereals, and brown rice instead of refined grains.
Add legumes: Incorporate beans, lentils, and peas into your meals.
Snack on nuts and seeds: Nuts and seeds are excellent sources of fiber and healthy fats.
Important Considerations
Increase water intake:
Drink plenty of water when increasing your fiber intake, as fiber absorbs water.
Read food labels:
Look for foods labeled as high in fiber to help meet your daily fiber goals.
Gradual increase:
Slowly increase your fiber intake to allow your digestive system to adjust and avoid discomfort.

FIBRES
WHAT IS FIBRE? Fibre can be defined as an extremely thin-long thread of a natural or artificial substance used to make clothes by turning into yarns.
THERE ARE 2 TYPES OF FIBRES 1.Natural Fibre 2.Synthetic Fibre
WHAT ARE NATURAL FIBRES? Natural fibres are fibres that are produced by geological processes, or from the bodies of plants or animals. They can be used as a component of composite materials, where the orientation of fibers impacts the properties. Natural fibers can also be matted into sheets to make paper.
WHAT ARE SYNTHETIC FIBRES? Synthetic fibres are prepared in factories using appropriate chemicals. They are also called man- made fibres. Synthetic fibres are better than natural fibres in some aspects. They are stronger, wrinkle-free, have fast colour, do not shrink and not spoiled by moths.
5 SYNTHETIC FIBRES Rayon Nylon Polyester Acrylic Plastic
RAYON Rayon is used in textile industry for making clothing like sarees, blouses, dresses and socks. Used to make bed-sheets, curtains, blankets, etc. Used to make carpets. Used in medical field for making bandages and surgical dressing. Used in tyre industry for the manufacture of tyre cod
Nylon Clothing – Shirts, Foundation garments, lingerie, raincoats, underwear, swimwear and cycle wear. Industrial uses – Conveyer and seat belts, parachutes, airbags, nets and ropes, tarpaulins, thread, and tents. Military applications-Ropes, parachutes ,etc. It is used to make a fishnet. It is used as plastic in manufacturing machine parts.
Polyester Polyester is also employed in the manufacture of many home furnishing materials such as bedsheets, curtains, blankets, and pillowcases. Polyester is also used in upholstered furniture. Another important application of this polymer is in the manufacture of mouse pads. Polyester is known to play a vital role in the manufacture of certain types of car tyre reinforcements. It is not uncommon for polyester fabrics to be employed in conveyor belts.
ACRYLIC used for making sweaters. used for making blankets. used for making shawls. used for making socks. used for making carpets.
PLASTIC Plastic is used to make polythene carry bags, pipes to carry liquids, etc. It is used to prepare non-stick coating on pans and other cooking utensils. It is used in making crockery and table tops. Plastic is also used as an insulator to cover electric wires, to make bottles, raincoats, etc. It is used in making thermocol.
ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY PLASTICS Negative Effects on Human Health. We eat plastic-contaminated seafood. It Upsets the Food Chain. Groundwater Pollution. Land Pollution. Air Pollution. It Kills Animals. It is Poisonous. Cleaning Plastic is Expensive.
WAYS TO REDUCE HARMS CAUSED BY PLASTICS Use paper bags or reusable cloth bags. Encourage recycling of plastic materials. Separate the biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes at your own level and encourage others too. Do not throw waste especially plastic waste here and there to avoid damage to animals and clogging of drains. Use the least amount of plastic packaging material and other plastic articles.
