This presentation delves into the concept of field dependence and field independence, two distinct learning styles identified by Witkin's (1976) cognitive style theory. Field dependent learners rely on contextual cues and holistic processing, whereas field independent learners prefer structured and analytical approaches.

1 Topic: Field dependent And Field-independent learners
Add a footer 2 Field-dependent & Field-independent The field dependent/independent model of cognitive or learning style. A field-independent learning style is defined by a tendency to separate details from the surrounding context. It can be compared to a field-dependent learning style, which is defined by a relative inability to distinguish detail from other information around it.
3 Theorists define these two cognitive styles les in terms of how they are psychologically different - which makes this a useful model for teachers trying to understand their learners Example Field-independent learners tend to rely less on the teacher or other learners for support. In the classroom Activities such as extensive reading and writing, which learners can carry out alone, are useful for field-independent leamers. The field dependent learners are those learners who are most affected by their environment
Add a footer 4 They are inclined to overall field learning and tend to get the whole idea. whereas the field independent learners conduct an analytical procedure and are more likely to break a model into different sections and details and tend to depend on their inner knowledge and analyze problems all by themselves without reference to the frame or the environment.
