Raw Water – Clarified Water – DM Water Raw Water Source : Pondage created by Gosikhurd Dam across river Wainganga Intake Point : 24 Km South - East of Plant near Village - Pipari, Distt. - Bhandara Raw water Wet Ash Disposal Fire Water Tanks Clarified Water Filtered Water Demineralised Water HVAC Condenser Cooling Water Potable Water Gravity Sand Filtration Pre Treatment Demineralisation Service Water System Raw Water

Pre Treatment of Raw Water 7 Pre-Treatment of Raw water is done to make Clarified water which is used in Cooling water system, HVAC System and for producing filtered water. Chemicals used in Pre-treatment : Alum Solution : Alum solution is used to reduce turbidity of water. It works by coagulating and precipitating suspended matter. It decreases pH of water during pre-treatment. Poly-Aluminium Chloride Solution : It has similar function as that of Alum however decrease of pH is less as compared to alum solution. Chlorine dioxide : It is a biocide/disinfectant used to remove microorganisms and organic matter. It is a safer option than Chlorine gas solution. Lime solution : It is used to elevate pH of water (if required) During pre-treatment of raw water, it is aerated first in aerator and then Alum/PAC solution is dosed along with Chlorine dioxide, afterwards the water goes to Clarifier where clarification takes place. For production of Filtered water, the clarified water is passed through Gravity Sand Filter.
