Infrared flame detector (IR) The bulk of radiant energy from most flames is in the infrared energy. Operating device in an infrared detector is a photo-electric cell which is an sensitive to infrared radiation. Other sources of infrared radiation such as hot steam pipes , hot plate etc . The alarm is only given when this flicker is present and is maintained for a minimum period of time i.e. 15 sec For quick detection in an early stages of fire the radius of detection should be limited to about 90 m. It is useful for protection of open storage area.
Infrared flame detector
Ultra-violet flame detector (UV) It detects ultra-violet radiation emitted from flames . Possible natural sources of UV radiation are lightening and sunlight. False alarm may be prevented by including delay circuit or by suitable screening. This detector can be made insensitive to sunlight.
