the material.

What else helps things to float?

Density:How tightly the atoms in the object are packed

Trapped Air: If you put an empty bottle in water with its lid on, it will float
because of the trapped air

eg. When you push a floating object the upthrust force fights back

Can changing an objects shape to increase its
volume make it float?

Can changing an objects shape to increase its
volume make it float?

Can changing an objects shape to increase its
volume make it float?
Yes! because it holds air and upthrust has more space to push the object

Where does the water go?

Where does the water go?

Where does the water go?
The size of the object displaces the water. The water rises the same amount
of space the object took. This is displacement.
