Warnings
Local skin irritation, local hypersensitivity, risk of hypercortisolism
(Cushing's syndrome) and reversible hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal
(HPA) axis suppression could occur. Avoid prolonged use where
possible, especially in infants and children under 12 years of age as
adrenal suppression is more likely to occur – treatment should be
limited to 7 to 14 days.
Prolonged application to the face is undesirable. If applied to the
eyelids, care is needed to ensure that the preparation does not enter
the eye. Avoid occlusion due to risk of infection. May be associated
with a higher occurrence of local hypersensitivity reactions and an
increased risk of local infection around chronic leg ulcers.

Warnings
Close supervision required if used in psoriasis as rebound relapses,
development of tolerances, risk of generalized pustular psoriasis and
development of local or systemic toxicity due to impaired barrier
function of the skin have been reported in some cases. If used in
psoriasis, careful patient supervision is important.
Initiate antimicrobial therapy if lesions have become infected; any
spread of infection requires withdrawal of topical corticosteroid
therapy and administration of antimicrobial therapy.

Possible Side Effects
The following local side effects have been reported infrequently with
topical corticosteroids, and they may occur more frequently with the
use of occlusive dressings and higher potency corticosteroids.
These reactions are listed in an approximately decreasing order of
occurrence: irritation, folliculitis, acneiform eruptions,
hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis,
secondary infection, skin atrophy, striae, hypertrichosis and miliaria.

Flutivate Cream Overdosage
Topically applied Fluticasone Propionate Cream (Flutivate cream) can
be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce systemic effects. In case
of chronic overdosage or misuse, the features of hypercorticism may
appear.
As with any corticosteroid, treatment should be discontinued if the
symptoms of hypercorticism appear. It is important that the treatment
is gradually withdrawn by reducing the frequency of application or by
substituting a less potent corticosteroid because of the risk of
glucocorticosteroid insufficiency. Further management should be as
clinically indicated.

Flutivate Cream During Pregnancy
Fluticasone Propionate Cream (Flutivate cream) has been classified by
the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C.
Corticosteroids have been shown to be teratogenic in laboratory
animals when administered systemically at relatively low dosage
levels. Some corticosteroids have been shown to be teratogenic after
dermal application in laboratory animals.
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant
women. Flutivate cream should be used during pregnancy only if the
expected benefit to the mother justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
The minimum quantity should be used for the minimum duration.
