Flying Mammals Made By – Aditya Singh Jadoun

About flying mammals Some mammals have “wings” so they can glide through the air, but bats are the only mammals that can actually fly by flapping their wings.

Flying Squirrel The flying squirrel has loose pieces of skin on either side of its body. When it jumps it opens them like an umbrella & can glide for 100m(330 feet), steering with its tail & legs.

Bats Bat’s wings are actually long arms with skin stretching between each finger. Their thumbs stick out like small claws to grip branches.

Vampire Bat The vampire bat’s favourite meal is fresh blood, even yours ! It feeds by digging its sharp teeth into the flesh, then laps up the blood.

Bat features Bats have a variety of head shapes, which reflects their feeding habits. Fruit bat: has a long snout & a long tongue to sip nectar & eat fruits Long eared bat: this bat has large ears that can hear insects’ wings flapping. Long-nosed bat: these bats have long noses to help them smell flowers.

Bat babies Some bats bring their babies up together in a huge nursery, often filled with thousands of bats. Amazingly the mothers can always find her babies when she returns with food.

Bat diet Most of the bats eat insects, but some bats eats fruits & drink nectar from flowers by using their long tongue.

Catching insects Bats are very good at catching insects in the mid-air in the dark! They find them by making clicking noises & waiting for the echoes to bounce off the insects.
