FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY UNIVERSITY OF SAAD DAHLEB Blida DEPARETEMENT OF FOOD SCIENCE by: Imane LADRAA For: Dr BOUCHAKOUR .

SUMMARY: : 2- FOOD 3- BIOTECHNOLOGY 4-FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY 5-CONCLUSION 1-INTRODUCTION

1-INTRODUCTION: Food is a vital element for every human . the need for something to eat, breathe and drink is the main requirement to survive. The human body is made out of cells, wich needs nutrients to function. food provide energy that’s necessary for the body to do all the activities: walking, talking…..

2- any substance containing nutrients , such as carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, that can be ingested by a living organism and metabolized into energy and body tissue  Food is an edible substance that comes from animals or plants and can be assimilated by an organism to produce energy , stimulate growth and maintain life.

FOOD INTAKE 35kcal/kg/ day

Biotechnolgy = bios (life)+ techno ( tools ) + logos ( study of) The study of tools from living things . It’s any technological application that use biological systems, living organisms (or parts of living organisms )to make , modify , impove plants or animals for benificial use. 3-WHAT IS BIOTECHNOLGY?

Agriculture Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary science including : Genetics Biology Enzymology Microbiology Biochemistry Immunology Nanotechnology Medicine Food science Biostatistics Computer Science Engineering pharmacy Economy

Available definations of biotechnology : Biotechnology is the application of biological organisms systems or process to manufacturing and servise industries .(British biotechnologists ) Biotecnhology is integraed use of biochemestry, microbiology and engineering sciences in order to achieve technological application of microbes, cultured cells and parts there of ( European federation of biotechnologists ) Biotechnology is the controlled use of biological agents, such as microbes or cellular components .(U.S. Nationel science foundation )

BIOTECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS: Medical and pharmaceutical biotechnology : Anti biotiques Vaccines Humain hormones ( insulin ) Tissue engineering Stem cells Cancer therapies

Environemental biotechnology : Biofuel , biodiesel , biogas Use bacteria and some plants to clean up environmental wastes

4-FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY: Food biotechnology is the application of technologies to make or modify animals, plants, and microorganisms, which have desired production, marketing, or nutrition related properties to obtein food.

FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS : Plant agriculture: Increased production Cross breeding Herbicide or pesticide resistant plants The use soil bacteria «  Bacillus thurigiensis  » as an insecticide

Animal agriculture:   Reproduction, selection and breeding, animal health, Feeding and nutrition, Growth and production.

Food processing : The use of bacteries : Saccharomyces cerviceae to make bread Lactobacillus to produce yogort Fangi to produce chees

Food processing : Extended shelf life Efficient food processing Better nutrients composition

Transgenics GMO Transgenic are genetically modified organisms with DNA from another source inserted into their genome Genes from other species/organisms. Organisms that have transgenes are called genetically modified organisms. As their genome is modified .to obteined caeactred desired.

Transgenic animals : agriculture use chicken Salmon Beef

Industries and medicinal use

TRANSGENIC PLANTS:

HEALTH RISQUES: Cancer Infertility Affect immune system, kidnyes , digestif system, liver higher blood sugar Accelerate aging

CONCLUSION:

Thanks for your attention
