What is Food Processing? It is a method that involves the process of treating and handling food to stop or slow down the spoilage and to allow for longer storage.

Why process foods? It extends edible time frame – preservation.

Why process foods? It makes better tasting foods.

Tools & Equipment

Weighing scale Tools (Measuring devices) It is used to measure any food item.

Liquid measuring cup Tools (Measuring devices) It is used to measure liquid ingredients.

Dry measuring cup Tools (Measuring devices) It is used to measure large quantity of ingredients.

Measuring spoon Tools (Measuring devices) It is used to measure small quantity of ingredients.

Knife Tools (Cutting) is used for cutting fish and other ingredients.

Scissors/shears Tools (Cutting) is used for cutting purposes like fins of fish

Food Tong Other Tools Used for holding and picking of hot objects.

Cutting board Other Tools serve as guide for cutting fish, meat and other ingredients

Grater Other Tools Used in grating cheese

Basin Other Tools Is used in preparing brine and other curing mixtures

Can Opener Other Tools Used to open cans.

Smokehouse Equipment a device used for smoking fish or meat with the application of smoke.

Pressure Cooker Equipment an airtight pot in which food can be cooked quickly under steam pressure
