3. According to Aristotle Forgetting is fading of original experience with passage of time. It arises due to disuse. 4. Failure to access or retrieve information previously stored in memory. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

Types of Forgetting Natural Forgetting 2. Morbid Forgetting A. General Forgetting B. Specific Forgetting Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

Other classification – Physical Forgetting 2. Psychological Forgetting Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

Natural Forgetting Forgetting occurs with the lapse of time in a quite normal way without any intention of forgetting on the part of the individual. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

2. Morbid Forgetting Person deliberately tries to forget something . ( Repression ) it also divided into 2 types . A. General Forgetting B. Specific Forgetting Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

General Forgetting One suffer a total loss in one’s recalling some previous learning . B) Specific Forgetting The individual forgets only one or the other specific part of his earlier learning. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

OTHER CLASSIFICATION………. Physical Forgetting In physical forgetting one loses his memory on account of the factors of age, disease, biological malfunctioning of the brain and nervous system, accident, consumption of liquor or other intoxication materials etc. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

OTHER CLASSIFICATION………. 2. Psychological Forgetting In psychological forgetting one loses his memory on account of factors like stress, anxiety, conflict, lack of interest , apathy and other emotional and psychic difficulties. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

Inadequate impression at the time of learning. Lapse of time. Interference of association. Rise of emotions. Poor health and defective mental state . Inadequate Repetition or practice of learning material. Nature of the material learned Methods used to learn Lack of rest and sleep Other factors. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

Inadequate impression at the time of learning The reason for inadequate impression is lack of attention & inadequate learning. Will is necessary for good memory. Forced learning result no learning Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

2. Lapse of time Time is said to be great healing factor. what is learned or experienced is forgotten with the lapse of time. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

3. Interference of association One type of learning interfere with the learning of another type is called theory of interfere. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

4. Rise of Emotions Emotion play a key role in learning as well as in forgetting. Sudden rise of emotion in excess block the process of the recall . Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

5. Poor health and defective mental state Deterioration in health makes an individual less confident and he remains under the state of tension and this is in unable to concentrate upon a thing at a particular time . People heaving a lower IQ or suffering from mental defects have been generally found to be very poor in retention and recall. In some cases a brain injury may also become a sole cause for the loss of memory . Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

6. Inadequate Repetition Or Practice Of Learning Material We forget facts which we do not subsequently make use of. We forget because of inadequate repetition or practice of learning material . Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

7. Nature of the material learned Amount of forgetting also varies with the nature of the material learned Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

8. Methods used to learn Apart from the nature of the material we learn systematic and efficient methods used in learning also influence our rate of forgetting. Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

9. Lack of rest and sleep Continuous learning without rest and sleep may lead to greater forgetting . Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)

10. OTHER FACTORS Other factors including fatigue ,long illness , distraction, lack of interest and purpose ,lack of willingness or intention to learn , unfavourable condition or situation to learn .these factors make the material easily slip out of the mind . Ms. Pooja Sen Nursing Lecturer( MHN)
