Formative and Summative Evaluation

Formative Evaluation Is a kind of evaluation that is done during the implementation of a program or a curriculum. It is also consist of 5 to 10 items. It is administered at the end of the day’s instruction. It provides feedback for the improvement of instruction. The result of this kind of test is not recorded or graded because it only provides feedback to the quality of teacher’s instruction.

3 Options Of A Teacher To Choose Based On The Formative Test Result Proceed to the next objective (if the class attained 75 percent or above mastery) Reteach (if the class achieved less than 50 percent mastery) Remediate (if the class attained 50 to 74 percent mastery)

Summative Evaluation Is a kind of evaluation that is conducted after the completion of a unit or a program. It provides an overall judgment of a program or a unit and determines accountability for success of failure. Its aims is to assess student’s achievement at the end of a unit, a quarter, a semester , or an academic year. Grades are assigned and provide feedback to student performance. It compares results of different performances of schools and students and different teaching strategies and techniques. And it utilizes 30-50 items.
