The use of word percent or the symbol should be accompanied by a specific number. A percent refers to parts per hundred, whereas percentage is the result obtained by multiplying a number by a percent.  

5. A value or quantity can be expressed as fraction, a decimal, or a percent. Thus it is important that you know how to convert a fraction into decimal and percent forms, and vice versa

6. Converting Fraction to Percent Accordingly , we know that a fraction can be expressed as decimal or percent vice-versa. To change a fraction to decimal , simply divide the numerator by the denominator. The resulting decimal can be changed to percent by multiplying it by 100 and annexing the percent sign.

10. Converting Percent to Fraction To change percent to fraction, we simply drop the percent sign and divide the given number by 100. There are also instances when we change percent to decimal first before changing decimal to fraction.

13. Percentage, Rate and Base To explain the cases that arise in problems involving percent, it is necessary to define the terms that will be used. Rate (r) is the number of hundredths parts taken. This is the number followed by the percent sign. The base (b) is the whole on which the rate operates. Percentage (p) is the part of the base determined by the rate.
